Just spent a good couple of hours drooling over some nice motors.. Mostly old Fords, what can I say.. I'm a sucker for 80's/90's hot hatches.

This one stood out for me... Hmmm, could I justify having it? I want it, but do I need it?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Escort-1-6-RS-Turbo-RARE-CAR-IN-CONCOURS-CONDITION-/330929404226?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item4d0cedf942

Also for some Jap-Tastic lunacy ( my brother and dad had them years ago and both were churning out a not to shabby 385+ bhp), ugly as sin but in a way I like.. Many a Porsche was slaughtered on the track days and back roads in the early years of the 2000's.. The power slides in the snow.. Ah the memories!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NISSAN-PULSAR-2-0-GTI-R-4WD-3-DR-HATCHBACK-PETROL-MANUAL-/310465399133?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item48492e095d

Practical as an every day car? Doubt it.. But then work Is only 1 mile away and the newly acquired Brompton has commuting covered.. Less than 7000 miles a year aswell so maybe just maybe.

What cars do you ogle on eBay and attempt to justify to yourself?

If you keep the gti-r sensible power wise, can live with the running costs and get a good one to start with it would be a reliable daily driver. I've had one for nearly 11 years and used to do a 60 mile a day round trip in it until i turned it into a sprint/hillclimb car.

Old Fords - Mk1/2/3 Escorts. I'd love an RS1600i if I had the money. That or a Mini. I miss the one I had and regret selling it.

Hi Mark,

I wouldn't be running daft power in it to be fair, my brothers and Dads were reliable enough at 430bhp and 385 respectively. Although my brothers was horrendous on fuel when driven hard.

I wouldn't use it to commute as it isn't worth it and not good for it if the oil or turbo isn't getting up to temperature. I was thinking an induction kit to help it breath, new exhaust and possibly remap to get the best from what it has, other than that it would be purely cosmetic..

I bloody love them tho.

Any pics of yours?

Currently trying to stop myself looking / buying this:

I am looking for something to tinker with, however a t4 Is also a possibility so I can have a project that the family will benefit from in the end...but I would love a 'rocco.

My mates brother had the RS Cosworth. I remember how crazy fast that thing was. Only car I remember from my younger childhood. Unbelievably fast.

I'd love one of these. You can pick them up for not too much now, but the running costs are horrendous.

Also have an R32 Skyline gtst sitting in the workshop , more fun than a gtr and sounds amazing at full chat .

I'd quite like one of these and one of these.

I quite often look on pistonheads, car & classic, Autotrader and daydream.

yes, herself is looking at 65 fastback Mustangs....
I'd like an Interceptor FF myself, or maybe a Sunbeam Tiger.
None are going to happen though.

We had a chap bring some old cars in to my Beaver Scouts group this evening.
The 73yr old Austin A10 was a bit of an acquired taste, but this...
Oh, I fell in love with this...

Sunny GTiR is a very practical car. Easy fit two bikes in the back.
As your commute is one mile you needn't worry about mpg and that particular one looks very nice.
I had one for a couple of years and loved it. Standard power is ample, it's just the wheels and brakes that need biggering.

With the modifications you mentioned and a boost increase to 1-1.2 bar you'd have around 300bhp which in reality is pretty quick and should still be reliable. Mine is a 2.3 stroker and was over 400bhp until the turbo went, should be up nearer 500 when I fit the new turbo and manifold.

Oh now you tell me! I can confirm that they are quite strong cars, especially when on their roof...

That skyline is nice Butcher, my mate has one.. Just a single turbo model and that sounds superb being wound up.. I can only imagine what the twin turbo sounds and goes like!

Brakes would also be upgraded fairly quickly, I remember the standard ones being fairly poor, as for wheels the biggest is go is 16", don't want to ruin the handling, maybe take a few mm of the ride height aswell with a set of coilovers.

Nice car Mark.. 500bhp.. 😯

Would love a shot in that!

but I would love a 'rocco.

Fantastic cars, had many of them but now onto a Mk2 Golf phase which i will refrain from posting pics off as i've done it to death on here in the past.

But here's one of my old rocco before it hit spilt diesel from a happy hayseed tractor driving bumpkin and ploughed through a field, closely followed by the two cars behind me which hit and knocked the rocco about a bit and wrote it off 🙁

Twin webbers, 2.0 heavily worked on 16v engine wi quaife lsd and 272 duration cams, custom made stainless exhaust and stand alone engine management - quite a flyer and the induction roar was addictive, as well as the pops n' bangs on the overrun or downshifting. I miss it but hey-ho, 15mpg was a bit tiresome/expensive to live with..........Go on...buy yourself a rocco.

Forgot about the brakes, or lack of them 😆

I upgraded them before i started going silly with power, got Ap racing 4 pots under 16" wheels.

Heres a couple more pictures and a video.

Had a Pulsar/Sunny GtiR for about 4 months and it was brilliant, it was a about 350bhp and very useable as a everyday car, very underbraked though so beware of that when driving in a spirited manner. Had more bias towards the back wheels than an imprezza which could catch you out.

Shame the muppet in Swindon who bought it managed to destroy it in less than a week.

I just sold my R35 GTR last week, had it four years. Was very sad! Still have an SR20DET MX5 with 280bhp and am on the look out for a Forester STI for the bikes.

There was a group of us into our Golfs in the early 90's.
Between us we had:
Me: Dragon Green Mk1 GTI
Dan: Oak Green Mk2 16v
Ben: Black Mk1 GTI
Laura: Mars Red Mk1 1.6
Eccles: Blue Mk1 Convertible
Gold Mk1 G40
Graphite Rallye
Out of all of them, this is the one I'd want:

Get an old Ford (mk1/mk2 escort), parts are easy to source but with nearly all old cars parts are becoming more expensive. Keep it for a few years and you can even make a profit! Very easy to work on too, even I can and I don't have a lot of mechanic knowledge!

I always wanted a Pulsar GTi-R, but after going in one I didn't want one anymore. Still see them and think they are nice.

Spied this earlier today.. This could be my new number 1 choice..

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/bmw/e36-m3-92-99/bmw-e36-m3-evolution-coupe/598654

Still can't get the RS out my head tho.. Or the Pulsar for that matter.

I drove my brothers and Dad's all the time so I know they are fun to drive, never driven and M3 tho. Certainally a very usable car for me!

Concerned the RS may be a bit to nice to use potentially every day, plus I wouldn't want to destroy it, I had a 1990 XR3i which appeared to made from cheese...

The Pulsar I could go for, but I reckon the M3 may have it beaten! I just want something a bit different, fed up of sensible cars, been looking at all sorts from Alfa 159's to Civic Type R's to Suzuki Swift sports.. Nothing excites me like the cars above tho.

My brother is selling his Evo.

I'll be sad to see it go.

Its had some mods so produces around 400hp, the acceleration is pretty bonkers, the way it goes round corners though is absolutely astonishing.

Still he was using it as his daily driver and getting about 8mpg so he won't be that sad to see it go

i used to remember seeing this go blasting past my house on occasions...back when Dubsports was based in Rossendale...

using 2 VR6 engines in a G60 Rallye shell....absolutely mental...
Dubsports also did a Mk1 Golf with a VR6 engine which was my favourite one...

That's a damned nice car Jools.. Prices are mental for them tho, have u seen what the first M3''s are going for.. £25k+ 😯

Cyclebiker, I'm thinking about selling my MK2 Rocco project, GT2 shell, Mattig 13x7&8" steels, Neuspeed ARBs, coilovers, 2.1l 16v with Jenvey ITBs and DTA ECU, Supersprint manifold etc. It needs some decent brakes a tank and pump and it's pretty much good to go, and it really would go. Priorities have changed so would consider offers....Just over the bridge as well....
