I’m in. I’m one of them.

Got my Birkenstock sandals along with some white socks on order.

I assume the towel for the sun lounger will be issued when I go to pick up my new passport.

Ja, and very much indeed, wohl….!

Glueckwunsch!

If only I had known where we were heading I would have gotten mine when I lived there for 6 years back in the 90s

Mrs WFs Birkies are well over 20 years old now and held together with pop rivets!

It's nearly as much money as new ones but I got mine refurbished. I felt it was worth it for me as mine are leather and I put value to not throwing away and buying new.

Here

Have also learned to make that German bread and am entirely happy with cheese at any time of day...

The variety and quality of German bread is amazing. A good bakery there is like heaven.

My favourite one is in Ruhpolding ( https://www.baeckerei-schuhbeck.de/)

Congratulations! Welcome back to the benefits of Article 45 which we in the UK decided to walk away from. A few of my colleagues have done this over the years (work for a German based company) and I've never seen someone regret it.

Condolences.

You know, just for balance lol.

Some good biking roads over there. And I've been eating cheese for breakfast for years after spending time there.

Germany is a beautiful country! Drove through it with an old work colleague - we did an Alpenüberquerung MTB - a marvellous experience.
Miles and miles of vineyards. And the German fella's house! Like a Grand Designs thing, but in a whole row of Grand Designs things. Was a bit jealous.

Congratulations! You can now queue for grumpy customer service at Rewe or Mediamarkt and feel like it's normal. Have you spoken at a colleague without filters yet?

Seriously though: awesome news for you.

Dankeschön!

@Edukator I, too, thought that my application had been turned down. They weren't bothered about my drug habit, but rather the amount I had earnt.

Being self employed, they want to see that you've a profit of over ~21k€ a year. Namely the two years prior to applying. I applied at the start of 2019. 2017 & 2018 I had spent most of my time in the UK essentially watching my mum die thanks to leukaemia, and as such hadn't earnt very much at all. The woman dealing with my case (who had a very Spanish sounding name and certainly didn't look like your typical German Fräulein, ironic) moved on to a new department and I heard nothing more.

In December last year I had a letter come through asking if I wanted to close my case. Yes. Obviously, yes.

Pled my case, explaining why I hadn't earnt much, which led to me having to show all of my tax returns for the last 7 years as well as detailing what dates I was in the UK (if longer than six months in a 12 month period then game over).

Then came more questions including a 16 page yes/no questionnaire asking whether I have ever been a member of various organisations (ISIS, Rote Armee Fraktion, AFD, student groups, etc) essentially trying to find out if I'm a danger to the state.

Next they wanted to know what my pension was like. I don't pay into the German pension system because it's crap. Instead I've got my money in various ISAs and such like. That took quite some explaining.

Didn't hear anything for a month or so. Opened the letter box on Monday and there was the letter confirming that my application was successful.... 😁

Some of you seem to have quite intimate knowledge of where the nudies hang out. Personally I prefer to ride further south where it's a little quieter before letting my willy dangling in the fresh air.

You can now queue for grumpy customer service at Rewe or Mediamarkt and feel like it’s normal

Service with a smile? That's what we go to Italy or any other non German speaking country.

No cheese for breakfast. Very much doubt anyone can convince me that there's a better breakfast than a full English. Hmmm... Maybe a brioche, coffee and a ciggy, but I'm the wrong side of the alps for that.

Some skills were required on the ride towards Bad Tölz alongside the river otherwise it may have been a rather damp day.

Also it's Germany and the inhabitants don't need an excuse to get their kit off in the great outdoors. (Much to the horror of my Austrian friends and relations!)

damp day

More than just damp depending on who you meet/take with you. More than moist, even.

If you cycle from Garmisch to Plansee along the River Loisach you'll see lots of nekked riverside sun- bathing.

Agreed. It's like a reality TV show... which come to think of it, is all I could find on TV last time I was in England.

If you are one of them don't you need to capitalise your nouns now?

Congratulations I'm a little jealous, although haven't you lived there for a while? I have a lot of time / affection for Germany, we had a "what if" pre Brexit discussion and it was the first European place my mind went to.
