but remote working via a Citrix link adds a new level to that particular Hell!
Citrix is fantastic.
A badly implemented Citrix installation however is horrendous. And my, there are a lot of those around.
Yours, a former Citrix engineer.
An office based organisation of around 400 suddenly working remotely puts a “bit” of a strain on things.
In fairness I’m sure our IT support are doing everything they can. SAP isn’t their fault.
Long suffering (badly installed?)Citrix user here. Thankfully installed by clients IT department.
On the bright side the perfect explanation for WFO output performance.
Citrix is still alive?
I thought 2008 RDS server killed that of years ago?

Yeah, that won't help. Our normally at least 'usable' VPN was on its arse earlier this week. Fortunately it's spurred IT into finally switching us over to the new one.
I'm using this as an excuse to get everything that I can off of our servers. People have been reluctant for ever but now it just has to happen. It's great
Cisco VPN here, and it's working very smoothly. Not bad given there are probably around 5,000 of us 🙂
That's what we've just got rid of. We're on FortiGate now.
To be fair, the biggest problem with it was probably that it was older than dirt.
I’m not even using a company issued computer. Just as well that I replaced my old PC a few months ago.
A Laptop, Cloud tools and a VPN for the important stuff, connecting to a local PC is something only a few of my organisation have to deal with. I feel for them, for me, it's a breeze working remotely 🙂
Citrix is still going, I know a few engineer working there in Cambourne just up the road.
I used Citrix at a client recently. Bring your own computer (anything) and it just worked from wherever you were in the world. Only annoyance was that the virtual desktop was not part of the developer network so you had to RDP to a machine on that and then RDP onto your servers. But that's not Citrix's fault.
My wife's using Office 365 and it doesn't even need a VPN or Citrix required.
We were in the middle of a big Citrix rollout when the WFH bombshell kicked in, so it's been a challenging couple of days for my team to all get connected via their own devices at home using hastily cobbled together instructions, but once in it seems responsive and stable, unlike our old solution.

Yep I’d also say that some of the bloatware that companies release,
giggle,giggle,probably doesn’t help.
If I remember the jump from vb6 to .net runtimes was pretty grim on user numbers if servers weren’t scaled up.

I’m in love with Github, I could honestly work in a coffee shop like all the advertising images you see doing their crazy sht, er if we weren’t in end of days.
It even runs my CI and if I got my finger out could do the deployment to TestFlight for testing.
And MacBook Pro’s - yum yum thought it would be a gimmick but I’ve nicked mrs DOD’s and it’s great.
VPN->Citrix->Desktop (RDP)->VPN->VM here.. happy days!
Former Citrix person here and, whilst I do miss the ability to have my work stuff appear on any desktop, I do not miss having to use a NetScaler VPN, or the company itself.
These days it’s a proper VPN, always on, and easy access to all of the things that I normally use as if I was on a local LAN. No need for Citrix at all. Which is nice.
Cougar, FortiGate? Hmmmm. You may want to make sure your upgrade/hot fix plans are solid. They do not have the best rep for security fixes.
