The last one may have been off but it was probably the two bottles that came before what done it. 😀

It's a bit like that last pint being a bad 'un.

Hair of the dog. It does work, but only if you taper down, not up.

It wasn't a Tesco Claret was it?  I had food poisoning Friday night through to Saturday morning, this being the suspected culprit.

In the same vein of “port always gives me a hangover”, which actually should be a reflection that if you have drunk enough to make port a good idea, you have probably drunk enough to give yourself a hangover anyway.

If I ever utter the words ‘actually, I think I might have a brandy’ Mrs Binners immediately orders us a taxi home as we’ve clearly entered the ‘no good can ever come of this’ part of the evening. It’s like a safe word.

If I have a hangover, more often than not I can’t remember what I’ve had to drink anyway, so could be anything.

Properly LOL'd at that wonderful phrasing.

I've drank an entire bottle of port on multiple occasions....the fact that I barely weigh 11st makes this all the more notable!

Broke dry Jan today. Hiking all day in the Lakes, followed by a pint and a port chaser (my wife ordered the same).

Drinking port is splendid - provided, of course, it's worth drinking.

20 or 30 year old tawny; if you're (really) serious, vintage - from a good or great year.

Port'n'brandy is a good way to get rid of cheap port and rough brandy.

Cider, my God, takes me a couple of days to fully recover.

At a family do there was a significant amount of wine and then port that went missing in the direction of my Dad.

The next day he was decidedly rough but rather than blame the wine, suggested that some of the cheese must have been off.

To this day, being rough as **** after a night out is known in the family as 'had some bad cheese'

Lol, reminded me of a place I worked in the 90's with a bunch of blokes that, like me, are all in their 20's. Obviously Doug nights out were the norm.

Pulling a sicky after a bender became known as having a "bad doner".

It took on another meaning as a girl came into a few of the guys lives and she was called Donna.

Happy, daft times.

Ha! That brings back a memory of a bloke - let's call him 'Bob Mellor' - who worked with my Dad.

On Tyneside; 'working men's clubs' offering cheap booze, bingo, club singers.

Bob was, of course, a member of at least one club

One or two Mondays each month he would call in 'sick'; never a Tuesday or Thursday.

Write the script...finish work Friday 4pm or 12.30 Saturday if working overtime; club on Saturday evening, Sunday lunchtime and evening; federation (fed) special until the volume became too much then rum'n'pep.

He earned his nick name of 4 day Mellor.

For the record, my Dad rarely drank - but didn't, generally, disapprove of those who did.

This ties in with my opinion about "it's because I was mixing my drinks". If you were mixing your drinks, it means you were having enough drinks to be able to have a selection of them, so it wasn't the variety, it was the amount.

Very true.

But there's something particularly vicious about a port hangover as well.
