As in I don't work anymore as of yesterday.
Though I do my little Facebook hobby cycle repair thingy!
Just moving, as in next month to my new! house in Portslade mortgage free.
And my little one bed place I had, and still have a mortgage on...and couldn't sell. Is as of yesterday rented out.
Do I go woooh hooo now?

Either

Yay - go all silver surfer and do loads of stuff you never used to but always wanted to - a bit like jobs around the house in the first weeks of lock down

or

Nay - sit around grumpily and complain that nostalgia isn't as good as it used to be - a bit like the rest of lock down

Good luck and congratulations on the change whichever way you go
🙂

So you are not working during lock down but retiring when they say you can work again?

Isn't that a bit like dying while asleep and not finding out until you don't wake up in the morning?

I was made redundant 2 years ago at 53, I've spent the best part of 2 years trying to get my little online business up and running, I also spend a few days of week working in the bike shop. I'm in the process of selling my mortgage free house and planning to move to Scotland - the proceeds from the sale will be enough to live on for 10 years, by which time my regular pension will kick-in. It was only when I had to write-down my occupation the other day, I wrote "semi-retired". What I've also come to realise that being relatively well-paid for over 20 years, has just led to a massive accumulation of "stuff" which I'm endeavouring to now get rid of. I'm looking forward to a simpler, healthier life.

Excellent, welcome to the club. You'll love it. You can go out cycling in the fresh air any time you like and travel around the country... Ah...

@ WorldClassAccident I've bought the old 70's SLR camera...tick. Planning to try out surfing on the waves of Brighton....tick. Bought a new bike in November and it's never been out...tick.

@ IHN Lost my entire pension back in the day to pay for some ones luxury yacht in the med, if that helps?

I actually recall vividly riding from London to the Dunstable Downs when I was 13, which I did most weekends. And thinking I'll get myself a nice Colnago when I'm 60. Still can't ####ing afford one.

Me too! 30/04 at 53. I'll pay myself a salary up to 55 from 'reserves' then draw pension. It's not fair though, I was looking forward to standing in the PO queue grumbling and stinking of pee...

Retirement is not what I was hoping for, a week after I retire it seems almost the whole country retires as well.

And you are only allowed to leave the house once a day. You could have picked better timing 😉

Ah @oldgit - I saw your FB post earlier on B&H and looked you up! I am in Portslade too (well sort of Hangleton/North Portslade/Blatchington Mill)

Good luck with it, and hopefully see you around!
