Not been on here much for months, come back to find the notifications are still broken (despite it apparently being fixed weeks ago https://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/our-forum/#post-10448024 ). We still have to manually copy and paste to quote somebody when replying. Remind me when the fantastic forum update is coming.

I doubt I've been missed, but just to point out that whilst it wasn't the main reason, the forum update debacle certainly contributed to me not bothering to come on here any more, and ultimately to me having just cancelled my sub.

Biting my lip a bit coz I'm new around here, but this is the most clunky, bug ridden, non user friendly forum interface I've ever used. By some margin. The content is great, and there are clearly some knowledgeable and helpful people here, so I'm toughing it out, but God it's hard work!

I was about to say "I mostly don't have any issues with the forum" - but then I had a bit of a think about what people compain about and realised that I have just wokred around the problems or dont try and use those "features".

Viewing on mobile devices isn't a problem for me - but I mostly view on a laptop.  Because on my phone or iPad I get logged out so see a bunch of adverts etc, which makes palying "hunt the login button" all kinds of fun.

The "we value your privacy" box.  Again - only see that on my mobile devices, so another reason I tend not to view the forum in that way.

"Classifieds" dont go there as I stopped being able to see the posts.

Quoting function - I just accepted that I'm a bit rubbish at using it or its a bit rubbish, so I rarely bother to try.  Think I was successful last tine I tried though.

Search funtion is a crock of steaming crap.  So I don't use it.

It's the same as the old systems we used at work - anyone that used them for a while either worked out ways around their shitness or were just so used to how bad they were, that we just forgot they were appalling until we had to train someone on them.  Then the despair returned.....

Si

Sadly its very poor, and despite the fact that the posters provide the content, we are either just classified as moaners, or we get ignored.

I reluctantly put up with it as the quality of the forum advice is very good.

To give stw credit the search does actually work, just there are 2 of them and no clear indictation which is which.

I got a funny message from Subs today - after emailing about a mess of an email regarding subs payments - “if you want to cancel your sub I can arrange that”... eh? Why would you even suggest it? I love Singletrack mag 😂

Quote function works for me now I'm glad to say.

I'm even getting used to the for sale forum but I really miss the old format it was like a huge bike boot fair. Loved searching through it for stuff I "needed" Lol

Thing is, I've got a lot of love for this forum for all its flaws.

Its my home on the net. I'd be gutted if it ever disappeared, genuinely.

Oh aracer, I had noticed you hadn't posted in a while. Nice to see you back, I hope!👍

Not cold at all - admittedly I did have to turn my gas c/h on a couple of times when it was below freezing outside. It does take a bit of work to keep on top of the damp, but I seem to have that under control as well.

Meanwhile there is fun to be had:

BTW I don't think that was trolling at all - I'm impressed he remembered!

OMG this is so clunky and horrible writing posts which would be so easy on any other forum, I'd forgotten how horrible it was. But then they have so much traffic here and have to have their custom forum software for some reason, isn't that the usual excuse?

Just in case it was missed up there STW HAS JUST LOST A SUBSCRIBER IT MIGHT HAVE KEPT IF YOU HADN'T BEEN QUITE SO RUBBISH AND ARROGANT ABOUT THE WHOLE FORUM UPGRADE PROCESS

It's certainly way warmer than it's been - I'll probably let the fire go out tonight rather than stoke it up with coal which costs money. Do you have no heating at all on though (the fire is all I use apart from when it gets really cold)?

Except it doesn't return search results in date order, even though it proudly claims too.  8 year old threads anyone? Hmm, yes please!

The forum help page hasn't been updated, so just ignore that OP.

Well yeah, but I've been away so long I've forgotten all the work arounds. Where exactly does it tell a newbie to ignore the forum help? More to the point why has it not been updated some time in the last 6 months (now I remember that was how videos worked at least 6 months ago)? I mean this is pretty basic stuff here for a website run by a supposedly professional publishing company.

Well it's better than the last one.... help won't be updated until the forum is finished according to the mods as there is too much daytime work to be done like the snowboarding channel.

If anyone is listening...
Forum Activity page? Is it coming back or not, notification are crap
Last post via mobile?
I know classifieds with adblocking isn't ever going to work
Will the rich editor ever work without screwing up quoting or pasting?

Some time next century then? Do they not have a tea boy they can put on it - that's about the level of expertise required to ensure it's vaguely up to date. It hardly gives the impression of a professionally run website at the moment when they can't even get these basics right.

Yeah, cracking idea.
I did that the other day to see if it would make things better or worse.

Accidentally clicked an ad as the page jumped around refreshing, and ten seconds later recurved the text below.

FreeMsg: Thank you for subscribing to www.zapwin.com for £4.50 every week from Wahoo Limited until you text STOP to 83463. HELP? 03300538652

Won’t be turning it off again.

You’ve never been able to post a pic direct from a phone or a desktop onto here. Ever.
It has to be hosted on Imgur or similar, and Google Images don’t work too well, neither do Flickr, at least on mobile, and never have. I’ve been here since 2003...

Try turning off your ad blocker.

Just use DuckDuckGo as the default search in your browser.

 Our policy on Ad Blocking

Singletrackworld is an ad supported website. As a non-premier, registered user you are accepting that the displaying of ads in your browser is the cost of being a registered user and you agree that you will not block these ads. If you block the ads we reserve the right to suspend your account and/or block our content from displaying in your browser. In addition you agree not to promote the use of ad blocking on our site in either story comments or forum posts.

The ads in a very real sense do allow you to use this site without having to hand over cash for the content. If the ads were not there earning us money for the time we spend keeping this site running and filling it with content then we simply would not bother with a website at all or we would severely strip it back to just being a promotion site for the mag. It simply would not be economically viable without the ads there.

Same here. My local newspaper website which is an ad infested click bait ridden nightmare loads faster than STW too.

It's easy to detect advlockers and promt users to whitelist (several other bike sites do that already) but that isn't really the problem.

If people want to bang on about the policy then they need to work out how to balance advertising and user experience.

Yes my iPhone 6s suffers this - used at home on WiFi. It’s the only site I’ve ever used that does this. None of the other site issues worry me.

If you provide a service its the "whingers" you need to listen to, not those who dont "whinge". This is especially important when the users provide the actual content of the service.

I hardly ever use my phone, only my iPad, and I’ve never had battery issues on either of the pads I’ve had. On the odd occasions I’ve used my phone, a 6+, I can’t say that I’ve noticed it getting warm or the battery draining.

To be honest the forum and website failings are nothing to what seems like a complete cluster f&£k of subscription management. Last two copies of the magazine I have had to chase through and get ‘resent’ they seem to ignore my request to look into why since my resubscription magazines are no longer being sent. Just get ignored. It’s a complete shambles
