So, when Ralph Wiggum says "Oh boy, sleep! That's where I'm a Viking!" does he mean it literally, or metaphorically? Apparently this question has inspired furious, unending, circular, pointless debates. For some reason when I found out about it I immediately thought of this place, but I can't work out why.
Seems clear to me that he's talking about dreaming. But in terms of the debate, there's only one person who knows and that's the script writer. Any thing else is just a guess on either side, therefore both sides have equal status and it is therefore provable that neither can be proven correct. So don't argue about things that cannot be proven either way 🙂
Metaphorically. There’s no such thing as “a” Viking. The word comes from of a Norse translation of raiding or raiders, to its a noun as an one can Viking or be a Viking aka raider of other lands. “A Viking” is a modern generalisation.

17 pages and 3 packets of biscuits btw.
1) OP wants to FINALLY find the answer to a hitherto unending debate and thought STW was the place to go?
2) OP wants to discuss whether STW is significantly more circuitous than other internet message boards?

r/BirdsAren'tReal, right?
Whether or not anyone self-identified as a viking back in the day doesn't really affect our modern understanding of a viking.
Arguing on the internet? That's where we're all Vikings!

The video covers the issue of what the writers thought, and after apparently settling the matter it sneaks in a late twist of ambuiguity. Plus you could get into a whole separate splinter death of the author argument if you want...

3) OP thought he'd gift STW with another pointless thing for it to engage in circular debates on. With a side order of flutily hoping against hope that it'd distract some people from some of the forum's other bitter and never-ending debates.

I didn't bloody watch it, did I? Don't be ridiculous 🙂

Seems similar to a major plot device in Nevil Shutes novel ‘An Old Captivity’.
