I know it's about as dull a topic as there can ever be, but needs must.
2 adults + 2 teenagers = too many shoes and an untidy hall. Obviously a dedicated boot room is the answer, but back in suburban Perthshire, what can be done.
Currently thinking of a largeish chest of drawers (120 high by 100 wide by 45 deep), but there must be better options.
Help me Singletrack you're my (Mrs OTS') only hope.

What's wrong with a giant pile of shoes falling off an inadequately small shoe rack exactly?

If my boys are anything to go by the only place shoes are to be stored is in the middle of a doorway or at the bottom of the stairs. On that basis you need another flight of stairs and more doors.

I'm actually going to watch with interest for a real solution as Mrs G-d is unimpressed by the status quo....

We have 3 large square wicker baskets, from Dunelm I think.. takes the bulk of the shoes, but with the muddy boots and shoes from dog walking it still end up with a shoe based assault course to get through the porch.

I put up a shelf in our utility room approx 13" down from the ceiling (clears the back door) using supports above so nothing is seen below, it's around 90" long and can take 12 pairs of shoes / boots.

We have under stairs cupboard with 6 shelves each able to take 5 pairs of shoes or boots. We still have a box of walking boots / slippers / odds and ends footwear....

Gd has it - we have a large shoe rack (full), a large wooden box (also full, mostly with shoes and trainers that haven’t been worn for at least 2 years), but bottom of stairs is default choice for my lads!

I had this problem too with there being 5 of us. I bought some garage racking off ebay to put in the hall. Might not be the best looking but plenty of space for all our shoes and height adjustable shelves too. Used half of it with 4 shelves, didn't need the full height.

I just throw any stray shoes in the bin.

They aren't long in  putting them away after they they've had to fish a £170 pair of Nike Vapormax out of the bottom of the wheelie bin.

Shoes take up an amazing amount of space. I tried some drawers, but they just filled up so quick, especially with my size 11s, walking boots, cycling shoes etc.

My wife got a cheap rack for some plants which I stole and used for shoes similar to this one

They are narrow, so don't take up too much space in the hall, but can store a lot.

Ah yes, this is a real problem for us too as both my wife and I have a sport shoe habit.
At the moment they live in big, plastic boxes under the bed but this is not an ideal solution.

Try those plastic sets of free standing shelve units you find gor use in sheds or garages. Several levels so can divide up between people. Waterproof too.

I used to keep mine in their boxes stored either in the bottom of the wardrobe or against a convenient wall in the bedroom. Some of the boxes were wrapped in wallpaper samples to make them look a little nicer. Current pair or two of shoes are kept by the back door.

We have a 'shoe cabinet' - it was sold as suhc and it is useless - I only have size 8 feet but a pair of size 8 caterpiller - type boots are too long to allow the door to shut.

I default to the pile of shoes placed such that I can't properly open the door.

I bought an old blanket box for ours, works well and doubles as a seat.

Ikea +1

Weve got 2x4 Stall cupoboards in the hallways which holds about 20 pairs of shoes/boots/trainers and only about 20cm deep.

Ive actually comandeered one box for bike lights and the contents of my jersey pockets so u never have to faff arround for a multitool and tube ever again.

IKEA ones in the porch for the cycling and walking stuff, Crocs etc. Plus wellies. 20 pairs, what can you do?

Her regular footwear is crammed into her wardrobes.
Mine go under wardrobes/record shelves.

Me, just the 12 pairs. Vans, Adidas and posh.
Her, who knows or dares to dream?
