Are they one and the same?
Looking to get a micro system for the missus and her i-phone but most say i-pod. Can I assume they are both the same?
Cheers,
They are, but, you need to watch the width of the dock. For example we have two docks in our house, a BOSE and a Klipsch. The bose you can fit an iPhone in, the Klipsch you can't - too narrow.
And some won't charge an iPhone but will charge an iTouch (such as my Bose one).
if it'll charge a latest-gen ipod nano it'll charge an iphone. They removed the firewire charging pin from the latest batch of ipods and all iphones, meaning only the usb charging pins, which some older docks don't use (because the oldest Ipods didn't, iirc, feature the usb pins..)
Previously most accessories would charge at around 12v, through the firewire "pins" on the dock connector. The ipods now aren't compatible with firewire, and therefore now only charge at 5v (USB standard).
Annoying this means that lots of accessories which would charge older ipods won't charge the newest ones.
I've just bought a speaker system for my wife's iPhone as the ad said iPhone compatible, however it switches to airplane mode as soon as I put it in. It works and charges but not a lot of use if you get a call or some emails etc. The shi7e company won't let me return it without charging me a 'restocking' fee as they say it is compatible!
Just beware, if I was going to buy another one I'd go out into the real world and test them out first.
You have to have the airplane mode on when docking an iphone otherwise you get the most horrendous feedback
