Last time I did this it was all JSP and CSS, so I'm well out of date.

I have a REST-like/JSON API that return lists of simple data that I want to display in a table; then I want a button that invokes another API with some more JSON.

What framework do I want? I probably want something in JS that will run from the browser.

You could do this so quickly with vanilla JS that I have no idea why you'd bother with a framework.

React or angular

I'll add Vue.js to the list of options to consider.
(Although I'd be tempted to use plain js / jQuery, perhaps Bootstrap for quick and easy styling)

I think the answer is Datatables https://datatables.net

You will get something going pretty quickly without having to learn a JS framework. Spend an hour playing with it and it won't be time wasted.

Plain js? Not even jQuery? Seriously? I'm extremely fond of js, it's on my best languages of all time list, but it's not called the assembly language of the internet for nothing.

Give it a go and report pls molgrips

Well I did it with plain JS and just called functions with onLoad() to grab my data in JSON form. It was easy (well, the ripped off code I got from the internet was very simple), so thanks whoever suggested not bothering with a framework.

However, whilst the JS geeks are here, how do you supply credentials to access a URL without embedding them in the downloadable HTML or JS file for all to see?
