When UK, Denmark and Ireland joined the EU there was a football match between "the three" and "the six". A few facts in there (only link I can find is the Mail, sorry).

Is it units of measure?

It is. Chain, bag (tenuous!), stones, feet, pound, miles, rod, dram, pole. I think.

Clever.

Bag does seem tenuous to me. Swap for "Me and Julio Down by the School...."

The Chain is off Rumours and that was mid- to late-70s. '77? I think. Unless it was a late single and released well after the album, but I can't see that being the case.

Swords of a Thousand Men I was sure was early 80s also but I suppose it could be late 70s? Like, just squeaking in in '79 or something? It doesn't feel likely though, outside of this being a 70s quiz round I'd have guessed 81 or 82 so I think you're right here. It's such a great question though that I can't quite bring myself to care. (-:

Who sang "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting"?

If the quiz night is tonight we're probably all a bit late by now.

Duel.

Uh... 72?

No idea. Now if you meant Python Lee Jackson…

Oh, nice catch.

You know, I'm not sure as I've ever actually heard the original. I have it on Jan Cyrka's Prickly Pear album and the vocalist is Carol Decker.

I swapped 70s for music and yes I always type Jones as soon as I write Lee. As yet I’ve not called Ricky Lee Jones ,Ricky Lee Jackson.
Accept my apologies and I hope it hasn’t ruined anyone’s lives.

Well, if that's the logic at least it was closer than Hooker would've been! Or Cooper for that matter.

I didn't know that either. It explains "hiding your light under a bushel".

Q. Which band's hit (reaching No13 in the UK charts in Sept 1970) was used as the Top of The Pops theme tune throughout the 1970's
A. CCS (you could accept Alexis Korner if they can't recall the band name). Some might answer Led Zeppelin, which is wrong.

You could make it easier by rewording it and having whole lotta love and/or Led Zeppelin as the answer, which more people will get. ie Which band did the original version of the CCS No13 chart hit that was used as the TOTPs theme tune throughout the 1970's
