A pal of mine is setting up a holiday place for special needs kids particularly neuro divergent ones. She is almost there but she needs stuff for them to play on. A tractor would be perfect particularly a little red fergie. Obviously does not need to be a runner or even complete so long as it looks like a kids idea of a tractor.
Come on STW. Does anyone have one spare? Any ideas where to get one from
There is a small budget for one

Talk to the local farming community
Where are U ?
No idea where you'd source one* but it's a great idea. Couple of local farm shops have old tractors in their play areas that kids loved.
*Actually, might be worth contacting any local Young Farmers groups. They must have some charity aspect to try and show they are not just land grabbing oppressors of the working people.
Or maybe NFU Mutual, the insurers. Actually a nice company to deal with and will have the contacts.
I get what she's trying to achieve, but I don't think a tractor will be BS EN 1176 compliant.
^ almost certainly right, but you do see old tractors for playing on at farm parks so there must be a way around it
^Fun Sponges and Joy Vacuums
You'll still need to pay your inheritance tax.
We had an old red tractor lying in the garden as I was growing up back in the 70's and never once played on it, my bsa 250 starfire was pushed up hills and we glided at speed downhill as it had no engine
The brakes were great on that bike
Some hope!!
Small, old, tractors are worth a small fortune nowadays and anything that wasn't a runner will have either been restored or, if it was terminal, broken for spares.
ElShamino has the right idea unless your pal has a lot of spare cash.
As above. What the hell is a red fergie.
Dey be grey. And rusty.
I suspect Mattoutandabout might be able to give pointers in "dangerous" play grounds items.
Must be farm auctions every other week, with all kinds of ancient stuff coming up.
My first "company car" was a little red open top with bucket seat, cruise control (aka set and forget accelerator lever), oodles of torque,...
Red cos it was Massey not Fergie,
Fun toy to play with when I was 17, but I'd love to play with a new 18sp auto modern one controlled via a joystick.
Stating the obvious, but what you need is an ex tractor fan.
The nearest to you that I know of is Lanark Auction market. They sell lots of old past-their-best tractors and machinery every month on a Thursday. Some can be seen running and you can probably find someone there to arrange transport if you do buy something.
When we moved into our current house 22 years ago there was an old David Brown 850 tractor in the field that was seized. I paid £100 for it.
I got it going and used it for a couple of years and then sold it for £500.
Fast forward 18/19 years and ...

Its a shame, there is a lovely old 50's tracked tractor literally embedded in a hedge near me which i ride past, but the farm on which it is based the house burnt down before xmas, and the old boy moved out, i have no idea where to, or what is happening with the estate (Norfolk though)
Cousins must have around 20 to 30, and at least one steam engine.
I thought a lot of trading went through eBay, but these are all "collectables". Non-runners still sell for decent money unless it's swiss cheese with rust

.. someone is chancing their arm that a gullible punter will pay way over the odds for a pile of scrap.
Ad doesn't even say it starts! There's often an enormous difference between an asking price and what it's actually worth.
Edit - for example, a sold one in nice, running condition. £2K. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/156648375871?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=CEcNnAyXS26&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=DkdiOL5LQVe&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
We had a zetor at work for snowplough duties, it had a rusted out floor/cab and knackered expensive tyres. We sold it for £500.
It would have been perfect for playground tetanus and butterfly stitch learning's.
TJ has she considered round bails and a thresher?
I get what she's trying to achieve, but I don't think a tractor will be BS EN 1176 compliant.
This is an issue. We will find a way to deal with it
Ta folks.
Have you considered a tank?
You could paint it red if you must
Hi TJ look up Brian Nairn oakfield tractors on Facebook. He maybe can help.
