I have to wear boots at work. I get given Altberg leather boots, but thay are currently playing merry hell with a sore achilles.

I need a recommendation for a low cut 'shoe' that will pass as a boot whrn worn with long trousers. It cant look like a toe-tector trainer, it has to look a little less casual.

Can anyine recommend anything?

It has to be a boot? Or it has to be foot protection? Look at executive safety shoes on Screwfix, they’re normal shoes but with steel caps.

It has to just look like a boot, so i dont appear to be walking around in a pr of trainers. I will check out screwfix, thanks

I have huge problems with some boot designs cutting into my tendons, others don;t do it at all.

One trick is not to lace them all the way up, I've found, but really just trying a number of designs is probably a good start.

Also consider looking at a built up heel insole - it moves the point the boot presses about a bit.

These any good? Dealer boot , what I wear at work. They don't rub my achilles unlike their shoes and 8 hole boots.

Is toe protection the requirement? Theres plenty of shoes, rather than trainers, with toe protection - Doctor Martens for instance

I will check out screwfix, thanks

Being a bit like Argos - screwfix is a bit of an order-over-the-counter deal, unless they're pretty quiet they might not be able to accommodate looking at / trying on stuff.

Arco - as linked above - probably has the widest range of stuff that you can see and try on as you would in a shoes shop

Timberland do some Chukka boots that could look like boots if your trousers overhang.

Similar, Red Wing make a Chukka that looks exactly like their round toe 6" boots from the vamp down.

Or - depending on where you are have a trip to Altberg factory in Yorkshire to get fitted/customised?

If it's not a health and safety thing then what about some desert boots?

But I don't see why they want you to specifically wear boots and not shoes of it's not H+S

Im in a uniformed occupation. There is a requirement that i loot the same as everyone else.

I may just cut a pair down and see what happens....

I cant wear a more formal shoe as it will look different, so needs to continue in that chunky vein

Would a ankle brace negate the need for boots?

If you have to wear boots to work and you can't because of any injury you need to speak to occupational health/HR

Your employer needs to understand that PPE is supposed to protect and not cause injury.

Why do you need to "look the same"? Surely it doesn't matter to that level of detail? If you boots are black leather, wear a pair of black leather shoes. Surely nobody cares that much?

Even squaddies wear different boots from each other at times.

I wore KSBs for pretty much most of my time in the Mob.

Spotty Dog ( back then) IMHO.

So maybe try a pair of civie walking boots?

Lowa etc..

It might help the OP if he posted a pic of the sort of footwear that’s required wear, then it might be possible to make more informed suggestions.

Going to speak to HR / Medic people is probably the best way. You may get a sick chit allowing you to wear a more relaxed shoe.

I used to have to wear boots for work, we were issued boots but tended to wear our own. Magnum Classic being a very popular choice, were comfy as slippers.

Magnum also do a midi boot that may be worth a try...

Altberg also do a Midi boot....but I'd be very much looking at the Magnum boots.
