We have the Bagpuss DVD, and still play it, and love it. I once bought it for a friend when they had young kids, and they said they found it far too creepy to watch!

I've a soft spot for all the Oliver Postgate ones (Ivor and Noggin) as they remind me of when my gran stayed with us for a bit, and these seemed to be on all the time. Very fond memories.

Loved Bagpuss – seemed very gentle. Other favourites included: The Herbs; Hector's House; Mary, Mungo and Midge; The Clangers; Mr Benn; and The Wombles.

Interesting to hear modern children finding Bagpuss creepy – whenever I've seen a snippet of Teletubbies, I've found that very creepy. Perhaps my favourites from the past would seem creepy to me now.

Definitely a mid-40’s to mid-50’s vibe to this thread.

Which is great at nearly 47!

Fun fact:

Chorlton was named by the Wheelies after a label inside his egg which read "made in Chorlton-Cum-Hardy" (which is where Cosgrove Hall were based at the time).

So the titular happiness dragon's middle name is "Cum".

Spanish dubbed Teletubbies was good. Rather than the squeaky kiddy voices they had over here, the Spanish voice over artists just used their normal voice. So you had a gruff "Hola Tinkywinky!" bit like Channel 9 news on the Fast show.

The wombles & Pipkins

That b&w Teletubbies image looks like something from an early Doctor Who.

Bagpuss is on IPlayer at the moment. The older I get, the more I want to wallow in nostalgia.

Mr Benn has just appeared on Netflix.

Amazed at how slow an animation frame rate kids happily tolerated in the 70s.

Mortimer and Whitehouse Gone Fishing?

We had Ivor on DVD as our eldest liked trains when he was little.

The Clangers were always bloody weird though.

Ah, the Trumpton Riots!

Kids TV for me goes back to The Woodentops, Muffin The Mule, Torchy The Battery Boy, Four Feather Falls, Supercar, Fireball XL5, Stingray and Thunderbirds.
Oh, and Doctor Who, ‘An Unearthly Child’; even at my tender age, I felt a strange attraction to Susan…
…I was nine when it was first shown.

Imagination fills in the gaps. Ours watched Bagpuss on DVD, and Teletubbies first time round. Groundbreaking stuff for children.

Personally, I liked Come Outside. It's now called The Factory and has fewer dogs and no planes. I'm sure it's why Son2 is currently training to be a pilot.

Animation was really creative in the olden days wasn't it?
Morph, Button Moon, Fingerbobs, Fingermouse. Even the original Fraggles was puppetry.
I hate what they've done to animation now.

Managed to convince my kids to watch The Mysterious Cities of Gold - they've now watched more of it than i ever did.

I'll chip in my tuppenceworth......one of my favourites was Henry's Cat. Never matched the fame and glamour of Roobarb and Custard, but brilliant in its own way.

Out there in space, shall we find friends? Is there a place, where the universe ends?
When wll we find it? Never. Space, goes on, forever.

Years ago I heard an interview with an actor from The Archers. He was recanting a tale of in his younger days he'd chatted up a young lady with the predictable "one thing led to another" conclusion.

Chatting afterwards, the other shoe dropped as to who he was and she exclaimed "oh my god, I've just shagged Wordy!"

45 yrs later and I still can’t figure out what ‘Ludwig’ was all about.

But my favourite kid’s TV was the original Moomins. By far.

Books? Noggin The Nog, also Rupert Annuals. Can’t bring self to ditch either so here they remain on the bookshelves.

Wordy, id forgotten all about that show!

Anyone remember Willo the Wisp?

Got to say though, of all the shows mentioned, Bagpuss epitomises the magic and wonder of being a child to me, even after all these years.

Largely (wholly?) voiced by Kenneth Williams, IIRC.
