I like both the above. If Mr W is old and iolo is young then perhaps I'm middle aged.

Mind you, last night, I was listening to Asaf Avidan, Mungo Jerry, WASP, Randy Rhoads and a classic cellist whose name I forget.

It still sounds distinctly Eagles. I prefer newer country sounds especially Brad Paisley. The telecaster break at 2:29 for example:

Nowt wrong with teh Eagles, I like some of their stuff, but not everything.
You might like to check this guy out, this is the title track from his first album, Black Rose which I bought on vinyl when it came out in 1976:

You then might like to check out the song writing credits for some of the Eagles big hits, like New Kid In Town, Heartache Tonight, Best Of My Love, and How Long, looking for JD Souther, 'cos he co-wrote them.
Lovely bloke, saw him play a 200 capacity hall in Bristol, and he played those songs, and joked about the audience not having to walk a mile back to their cars after paying $300 for a ticket.
He was delighted to sign my vinyl copy of Black Rose, I was the only person there with a copy!
He wrote some songs for Linda Ronstadt, too, when he could find the time during other...
activities. 😉

There seems to be a bit of a move afoot to push country music on us unsuspecting rockers, these disgusting pushers like Frank Turner and Chuck Ragan tempt you in with soft options like an acoustic version of their old punk songs then the next thing you know you're injecting country music into your eyeballs.

Folk music- not even once.

You can get away with it if you call it country soul.

Relatively new country band, old country sounds:

But there's never any excuse for the Eagles.

Not bad, Lifer, though the singer should replace that SG with something more tuneful or stick to singing. I like country and folk when they are happy and amusing. Terri Clark's "Grils Lie too" for example. Folk such as:

Wow their ugly.

Firstly, it's they're.

Secondly, System of a Down are much much uglier. The lead singer looks like Osama Bin Laden and the rest either look like Chechen terrorists or heroin addicts.

Thirdly, why does that even matter?

The Eagles are absolutely my favourite band. I seem to be missing an album. Would love to be able to track down JD Souther's stuff, too.

Also rate Joe Walsh's stuff and a whole load of other artists from that era.

Love Warren Zevon's music, too.

Like any journey, "folk" is want you want it to be.

Pretty easy road from John Lair to Japanese electronica.

Having moaned at Drive-by Truckers using an SG I now have to admit some songs sound better played on an SG, iolo. That's definitely country but not for me. I'm struggling to find any country in Bike for Three, ned. Like any thread with lots of Youtubes this will shortly die as it takes so long to load.

I know you'll all be concerned, so I'd just like to give you all an update - had a lovely ride in to work in the sunshine and grabbed back about five years.

Panic over.

JulianA, see here: http://jdsouther.spinshop.com/Bundles%20/details/76704?parent_url=http%3A%2F%2Fjdsouther.net%2F
I bought Black Rose after reading a review in NME in '76 which gave it five stars!
Amazon have a bunch, including Black Rose: http://www.amazon.co.uk/J.D.-Souther/e/B000APZLAY

It's beginning to look like I may have awakened a monster.

Heh 😀
What something's labeled as is irrelevant to me, all that matters is how good it sounds. I'll happily listen to ABBA as well as Zappa, Fairport Convention and Faith No More.
