I Love capitalism for all the goodies I have. I like my house and my garden, I like my car and my phone and my ipad and my bed and all my bicycles. But I loathe capitalism for making me go to work on days like this where the only thoughts in my head are those of a sun dappled forest floor where my wheels could run free.
Is it possible to have a socialist paradise where we could have every nice summer day off and still keep all our lovely consumer items?

Capitalism is your solution, get richer own your own business and have staff.
Socialism is just everyone gets to be miserable (but very equally, except for those who are more equal than others)

capitalism isnt making you work today. Your consumerism is. You think you need to work everyday to afford all the stuff you want but dont need.

Im a capitalist. And I'm not working today 😛

In fact as a self employed capitalist Im distinctly more capitalist than yow! You are just someone else's bitch 😉

No you need to either decide to pursue money or pursue happiness/free time/fairness we cannot have both

Fairer worlds [ less greedy IMHO] will always have less GDP IMHO but I dont know why everyone needs a bigger tv every year and a smaller phone and two more gears and two more mm to their tyre size etc.

They dont really bring the life alive despite the hype.

PFFT! We're all a picture of happiness at the tractor production facility. And who wouldn't be? You should see our record output figures comrade! 😀

Well I reckon if we had to work every rainy day so we could have every sunny day off, "The Man" would still be quids in.

I like that thinking 🙂 although I suspect a lot of people would find it a rather challenging statement

Would like to see my wife's face when I tell her I'm going part time to pursue happiness. & it's not that you want bigger & better ALL the time but you need a certain amount of income to buy new bits when bits break, even with a cheap bike.

Well I took Friday off to bake some bread and get food sorted for a family gathering and knocked most of Monday on the head too. Also pop out for a ride when the sun shines and have nice bikes. It's about you not the system comrades

interesting idea, slowoldman.

Just dug out the rain days chart for Malvernistan last year:

[img] [/img]

I make that [s]144[/s] 166 days of the year that it rained here (and it was a wet year). I think most salaried people work c. 230 days a year dont they? GDP might take a bit of a hit under your scheme then. Although this year would have been a bitch of a January/February! and it's already 112 days out of half the year this year 🙂
