I read that yesterday, linked off Ben Goldacre's twitter feed I think. Long read and gets more depressing as it goes on.

Not surprising, sadly. Crazy to think the mail online are the biggest online media presence out of all the papers.

If The Daily Fail didn't exist, we would have to invent it.

There's something weirdly compelling about the daily blend of dripping poison, barely-suppressed bigotry and general hysteria.

Blocked in work, what's the gist?

Women approached by Mail for human interest story about moving to the country from the city.

Mail then make up everything in story and throw in some character assassination for good measure.

Women complains and asks for apology.

Mail lawyers tell women to get bent with basically threats she cannot afford to sue and does she really want to risk losing her nice house etc.

Women decided not to get bent, and rents anyways, so goes to court and wins a hearing to have the case proceed.

*skips some stuff*

Mail offer to either settle a bit of compensation or an apology, but not both.

Women is hacked off and skint so takes the money.

Conclusion: The Mail is everything you thought it was and more, but the women should have bailed early and avoided the whole thing...especially not driven nearly 600 miles as they needed a photo shoot.

I read a fair bit but couldn't read it all - about half. I can't say that I feel an enormous amount of sympathy for her, the very first sentence is "I grew up with the Daily Mail", so she knew what to expect then. She hardly sounds incredibly stupid, so she must have picked up on what sort of newspaper the Daily Mail is many years ago. Presumably that's why she had ditched it in favour of the Guardian?

I have some sympathy for the ill-informed, but very little for those in denial due to misplaced and unjustified "wishful thinking".

Hence my lack of patience with people who complain that the government don't give a toss, after they have gone out and voted Tory/New Labour.

10/10 for the geezer with the banana enhanced protective headgear ..... ideal snack for that post workout recovery, after a good ol' stone-throwing session. Is that a bap over his forehead ?

EDIT : Just read the spiel - got that wrong, it's two baguettes and a chapatti. Still.....good effort.
