no - but it might not have done your clothes much good? especially any zips etc?  dishwasher tablets are pretty corrosive.

Ooh, it was mostly sporting clothes, from running and rugby and pants & socks. No zips fortunately. 🙂

Make sure you rinse them very properly. Perhaps run thru a cycle of rinse again, to make sure.

haha we keep ours side by side too.  Permanently convinced I'm going to either put a dishwasher tab in the washing machine or a laundry thing in the dishwasher...

not totally dissimilar to the formulations used in commercial laundries that wash bed linen, industrial workwear, and the like.

I wouldn't do it regularly, and I'd make sure well rinsed out but it won't be a disaster in my honest opinion

(5 years at start of my career formulating industrial detergents)

Laundry tab in the DW would be a bigger issue, much foamier and you can end up with an unexpected foam party all over the kitchen. Don't ask me how I know that (also from my research days, forgetting to include a defoamer in the test formulation)

Yeah, someone once told me you could put Fairy Liquid in the dishwasher (did I read it on here?!) and it went bonkers foamy when I was stupid enough to try it 😆

I'm at the age where I have to have one delivery system for clothes, another for dishes. Having both in a similar form would probably result in the mistake you made happening weekly in our house! Also, using loose powder for clothes mean you can lower the dose significantly... still get clean clothes... less detergent down the drain.

To anybody who accidentally puts the wrong soap in the dishwasher, creates a load of foam and the dishwasher cuts out.
I can confirm that there’s often an over heat reset button and iirc some cooking oil or salt, can’t remember which gets the foam gone. I cannot confirm or deny accidentally doing this.

Careful with your newly washed jeans...you don't want those to be squeaky clean as you walk!

We don't have a dishwasher, but I have super cheap dishwasher tablets that I put in with my sons white school shirts and t-shirts along with the normal washing tablet.  Lead to believe it helps keeps them white and cleans the washing machine out a bit.

Yep, did that, and not under laboratory conditions... To be honest laundry stuff doesn't foam that much these days (I'm sure I read that the foaming agent was added in the past to essentially make it look like the stuff was 'working')

Done exactly that, although of my own accord. New flat, new kitchen, just moved in. Thought I'd rinse the dishwasher before using it. Didn't have any dishwasher stuff so squirted in some fairy stuff and went shopping.

Came back and there was a mass of foam on the living room floor, the kitchen was full.... Couldn't see the dishwasher or cupboards.

Fortunately the flat had a tiled floor throughout which made cleaning a little easier.

It's a great prank to play on someone.... Easy to squirt in some washing up liquid when they're not watching.

My wife has done that before. Clothes smelled funny and they made me itch but once washed again everything was fine.

I'd propbably just wash them again but without any detergent so they get a really good rinse.

Depends where you live, might get a scale issue on the element even in that one cycle if you heat the water. Cold wash or couple of cold rinses would be better. Pretty minor though.

The sports socks that were a bit stained on the soles do look cleaner, and the inside of the washing machine looks sparkling (even the rubber round the door). I'm calling it a win. 😀

So I'm hearing that running an empty washing machine cycle, but with a dishwasher tablet is a good way to clean the machine, right...? 😜

I've heard that too, and I've done it.  It definitely works to clean out all the accumulated gunk in the machine.

Whether it's compatible with all the various metals and parts in the machine is an unknown. I can't see why it wouldn't be though. But by the same token I've had the whole spider/bearing housing that supports the drum on a bosch washing machine crumble to dust before so something was reacting with something in there.

Washing up liquid is amazing at getting grease stains and oily marks out of clothes. Vastly better than branded stain removers.  Don't fill the machine with it though, just dab a drop on the stain...

On the other hand, my sister's friend on one field trip got his waterproof very dirty so he washed it in what he thought was the best available option - washing up liquid. He didn't rinse it properly, and the next day they went out in the rain again and as he moved around the jacket started to produce copious amounts of foam.

Until you have to remove the entire fitted dishwasher to reset it.

It will be no problem at all.

Aren't dishwasher tablets basically sodium percarbonate? Which is the same as those oxi stain removers?

Apparently a dishwasher tablet in the washing machine turns bed pillows back to snowy white again, if they've become yellowed.

Not quite, I think they're basically sodium carbonate, which is the same as soda crystals.

Yep, I've put a laundry capsule in the dishwasher - quite amazing how much foam is produced. My kids found it hilarious, but getting rid of the foam was much harder than expected.
