Science says swearing helps:

Only if you don’t swear regularly though, I thought?
Edit: Ah, read a bit further, seems It mentions that
U ok hun?
Is the forum software not clever enough to sensor the thread url?
Apparently not, that’s quite pleasing
It definitely helped when the big road rash scab came off my elbow in the shower this morning.
One very loud **** when i got a wasp trapped between instep and tongue of boot.
It provided no comfort whatsever.
Ofc!
Just not all the time.
One of the fun things about Friday Fails is the different swear words people say when they crash. usually 1 of 2 words. 😁
If you look at this thread in your posting history. It's quite shocking 😂
Swear at the cat. He can take it.

No, it's a manual process, I've edited it for you now.
The swear filter isn't really up to snuff any more, STW is looking for a better solution.

Sticky at the top with words that aren’t acceptable and leave it at that?
Seriously, we’re all grownups, more or less, so pretty much know which lines shouldn’t be crossed before words will be had, and gardening leave enforced.
There speaks a man who has never visited Mumsnet.

You cannot seriously think that's a good idea. The first thread a new user is presented with is a big long list of swearwords, racial slurs and other assorted unpleasantness?
We already have users actively going out of their way to look for things to be offended about. The swear filter is applied at the point of page rendering so if you use Google (or indeed, the site's search which is essentially Google anyway) then you'll find loads of pages full of swear words - or worse - if you explicitly go searching for them.

Except we aren't. In both intent and actual usage this is a family site and family forum. You'd be surprised at how regularly we get reported posts going "my x-year old child reads this and..."

Sadly your opinion of the userbase does not tally with our experience. People continually push against the boundaries of what they can get away with. "Swear filter avoidance" - where people deliberately try to get swears past the filter rather than accidentally - is probably the single most common warning issued. If we did provide a list of "things not to say" the first thing a certain subset of posters would do is go looking for loopholes.
I swear like a trooper and am the last person to be offended by words, but if every other post were littered with f- n- and c-bombs I think STW would be a worse place for it. Would you loudly call your mate a see you next Tuesday at a trailhead where families were sat around tucking into their post-ride bacon butties? If this were a closed, private community consisting of a group of mates then I'd totally agree with you, but it's not so it's inappropriate.
No swear filter will ever stop me.
But a ban would be rather effective in doing so. (-:
