just booked tickets to see a few bands at malahide castle next june, looks to be around 40 mins north from the centre, with the airport handily placed around midway?
never been to dublin before so we'd like to see it, but i hear its a bit on the pricey side.
will need to start looking at flights and accommodation now, so just wondered what youd recommend, staying near malahide for the gig and bussing/taxiing in to the centre for one day/evening? or the opposite, stay in the centre then bus/taxi to malahide for the music. im guessing the first option as thousands all leaving one place at the same time may make travel back to dublin a bit of a faff.
and to follow that up, any recommendations for digs? and places to drink and see in dublin itself?
thanks
I've been a few times, albeit for work, so there will be better placed people to offer advice.
But as a 1st go..
1. Yes it's bleedin' pricey.
2. You can use the DART train service to/from Malihide into the city, to avoid car gridlock.
3. Go vosit Phil Lynott's statue. I believe its back in place after some repairs.
I went to see Blur in Malahide this year. We stayed way out the other side of Dublin in Dalkey (for something else). Even with that I was able to get the Dart out to Malahide. It was however mobbed, due to pride, Blur and Iron Maiden all happening at the same time and there having been a cancellation. It was full on, but everyone was in good spirits.
Getting back in good time involved missing half of the last song and a 1km jog through the woods back to the station to get the Dart back before the main crowds. It was fun if you like that kind of thing.
There is a wonderful thing called a Leap card. 16 euro for 72 hours. You buy it in certain places and it does the busses, Luas and dart. Highly recommended.
good to hear about the train link and Leap card, thats handy to know. Â
i think we'd prefer to be in malahide itself which seems to be a decent sized place, and then train it down to dublin for the day/evening, however, we're finding accommodation troublesome to find. there dont seem to be a lot of places at all, and those we've tried to contact just have a voicemail and dont get back to us.
anyone know that area well and can recommend anything within walking distance of the train station?
if not we'll have to switch our search to dublin itself and do it the other way round.
cheers
