Good work!

I fitted in a 30 waist jeans yesterday for the first time in about ten years.

My 32" waist jeans are hanging off me.

I'm down 1.5 stone, but due to the time of year and number of works/department/supplier/customer/football xmas do's I'm going to I can't see it lasting.

Anyway, I saw a photo of me the other day and I look ill and haggard and that was before the party started 🙁

I'm thinking that some weight training may help, but then of course my weight will start going up again 😕

I've lost a couple of lbs - by moving away from a low fat diet. I read somewhere words to the effect of eating low fat stuff constantly forces your body to store fat for energy (makes sense) and crave "proper" content, hence you can eat more if you are not discaplined.

Full fat and lighter, woo hoo!

1 week in, 5 & 1/2 pounds down.

Bonus is, I don't think I've ever eaten as much. 🙂

This is true, but because sugar (which low fat foods are normally high in) is what puts you into fat storage rather than fat burning mode. Fat = natural & healthy. processed sugar = unnatural, unhealthy.

It's alright, I have a jetwash-wielding octopod porn star to do it for me 🙂

I read somewhere words to the effect of eating low fat stuff constantly forces your body to store fat for energy (makes sense) and crave "proper" content, hence you can eat more if you are not discaplined.

I'm not particularly eating, or avoiding eating, anything 'special'. Operation TubGone consists of (in theory, there is occasionally booze and snacks where there's not meant to be):

Mon, Wed, Fri - coffee on way to work, cereal at work about two hours after I get up, sarnie and apple for lunch, dinner. No snacks, no booze (until Friday night).

Tues, Thurs - 45mins on bike straight out of bed (road, rollers or off road, depending on weather/inclination). Coffee but no breakfast. Lunch/dinner/booze/snacks as above.

Weekends - Snacks, booze, ideally a 'proper' ride.

I think the key to it is that I have periods in the mornings where I'm 'running on empty', which in my entirely unknowledgable head means that my body's burning fat as fuel, hence the weight loss. Weekly weight loss has averaged about a kilo.

Pah, I have only shifted 3kg so far, and that has been since summer. Hopefully as I up the distance on the bike, and get a few more sessions in a month, it should start helping.

I have lost fat though, which is probably more important. Down from near 30% to between 24 and 26%. Got a ways to go yet! I can see the difference in my legs particularly where the muscle seems to be coming back 🙂

Probably going to start throwing some other activities into the mix in the new year, just got to decide what is going to fit in. Bit of running is certain, and possibly get back to Kung Fu too if I can make it work around family life.

I lost 4.5 stone in about nine monhs through cutting down the booze an riding for a couple of hours a week every week. Oh, not living in a hotel was he biggest saver I think.

Now I am immobile and have put back on about 1/2 a stone in 3 months.

Dropped around 9lbs to 17 stone dead and body fat to just above 25%. Going to the gym 4-5 days a week and only major changes to diet is less bread and cheese is a weekend treat. Lightest I've been for probably around 14 years!

Lost about 7lbs in the last 3 weeks after needing to wear a suit for the first time in ages and finding none of mine fitted. A step on the scales confirmed my suits hadn't magically shrunk and the alarm bells started ringing. Set myself a goal on Strava to do 500miles in December and that seems to be working.

In February I decided to start doing something about being really rather tubby.

Cut out all the really unhealthy stuff that I ate & drank, and for the rest of the time use the old eat less/ do more method.

Down from just shy of 17.5 stone to a nice 12.5

Gone from over 14st to 11st 9lbs in about 3 months, all due to eating less (intermittent fasting if you want to call it that) - it has been really easy and I am looking very sexy, my confidence has improved no end!

Well done!

I thought I was doing well with 18.5 down to 14.5

Just realised that is 4 stone, not the earlier misquoted 4.5 stone

I joined th Gym on 1st May and have dropped from 14.5stone to 12stone. In all honesty I had to change my diet as my body was storing low soluble fat and as a result I barely eat any carbohydrates. I do 3 to 4 spin classes a week and try and steer clear of alcohol until the weekend. Only problem is trying tto keep it off over Christmas! Incidentally, I seem to have a craving for chocolate cake 😯

Christ good work people! I am around 7 or 8 lb down over the last 3 week's by kerbing alcohol and snacks in the week and upping exercise. I tried idave a few months ago and lost about the same but wasn't enjoying the eating regime... I needed to realise that my portions were too big etc.

After a 'you're piling on the beef' comment from my friendly uncle, I weighed myself to find I was the heaviest I had been for ~ 3 years - 85kg. At 6 foot tall not exactly a bloater but good to get it corrected early

Bit more exercise, lot more intensity whilst exercising and some more control on eating habits have seen 4.5 kgs (~10lbs) drop in 5 weeks.

Back to below what I would consider normal for December. Will keep it up as it is working well for me at the moment. Would be great to be at race weight by Feb (78kg)

jeez, tell me about it, you should try weight loss when you surf. i've been 'big boned' all my life. generally around 16st - 16 1/2st. a great summer would be dropping to 15 1/2.

but since dropping a shed load and sticking around the 12 1/2 - 13 range, i'd like to get to 11 1/2 but seem to run out of steam at about 12.5, i freeze.

i mean, a summer wetsuit for me is now a 4/3, thats was a winter suit to me when i had blubber!

Interesting, I found that after I lost a lot of weight I could stand the cold and heat a lot better. Don't know why though, could be better metabolism due to more activity and/or better diet. I put on a bit of lean mass too, could be that.

Was up to 85 kgs with a healthy dose of lard.
Got down to 69kg and 15% lard.
Currently 79kg and 16% lard.
Let's see if I can get closer to 70kg and significantly less lard.

I am down from 11 stone at Xmas 2011 to 9 stone 13lbs. Size 14 to size 10/small 12.

My goal was not only weight loss, it was control of Crohns disease, and adapting to a gluten free diet after a coeliac diagnosis. Weight loss was a happy side effect! I am now steroid free and tapering off some other medications.

The things that worked for me were:

Fat. Yup, fat. 40-50% of calories coming from said fat, mainly in the form of oily fish (and fish oil supplements) flax, hemp oil, nuts, almond butter, coconut, avocado. I have full fat Greek yoghurt, full fat goats cheese and feta, things are cooked in butter or coconut oil.

Calorie maths - working out my daily calorie needs, and using My Fitness Pal to track and make sure I stayed on track with my nutrients.
Avoidance of grains, even wholegrains, refined sugar, legumes, processed foods. I sometimes have rice/rice noodles, a gluten free pizza or make a GF cake as an occasional treat, but on the whole, those things don't form part of my diet.
No booze and not drinking my calories - I ditched the morning fruit juice sugar spike in favour of water with a squeeze of lemon, and try to stay hydrated.

There hasn't been much exercise either, bar walking my dog and doing yoga, because I was too unwell for a few months to do heavy exercise or training. Largely, I've lost weight through diet and a bit of light exercise.

The conventional wisdom we're taught about low fat diets and weight loss - I definitely don't believe in it any more!
