Pondering over one 2007 2wd diesel auto
Any horror stories
Mpg ?
Keep well away ?
Thanks in advance
Had one in SA. Very happy with it. Looking for one here in Spain now.
Only driven a couple, for an accumulated several hundred miles, but I'm very impressed with them, very good interior, well equipped, lovely seats, engine pulls well and is quiet, the whole car feels solid and well built, they feel more sophisticated than Nissan Qashqai, although those are smaller anyway.
I can't add more than that, but my relatively brief experience is of a good, quality car that doesn't exhibit any odd habits, and is possibly overlooked in favour of flashier competitors.
Certainly worth checking out online for any owner fora, to see if there might be issues, but there don't appear to be any like the exploding Zafira, for example!
Just handed a new one back on hire. OK, comfy, space not the most usable inside. Not sure on the older ones but this definatly had the smaller than it looks inside feel to it.
I know it's not much help but my other half has a new one, I'll be having a Hyundai as my next car. I'm very impressed with it. Not that it's takes much with my car history.
As a side note, it seems like 90% of the taxi's in Singapore are Hyundai - when you see how some of the driver's drive you'd be impressed how long they seem to last.
I had a 56 plate Tucson cdx spec auto diesel when it was 2 years old and had it for few years, rubbish MPG, under powered engine, eat brake pads/discs and cost alot to service at Hyundai - it was good for space and the seat folding flat in the rear opened up a pretty big space. I have driven a similar age santa fe and that was much better all round with a better engine but not sure if the cost is comparable.
I have had one from 900-7000 miles on hire, really pleased with it.
Now have brand new one as company car, diesel 2WD manual NAV. Only thing bad is mpg. Whatever Hyundai say you'll only get about 40mpg out of it so maybe worse with an auto.
Fits three kids in the back, loads of toys in it, happy apart from fuel economy.
I used to be on a mental lease deal where I got a new Hyundai every 6 months. Had a Tucson once and it was entirely fine. Not as nice as the Santa Fe it replaced but really fine. It was a 4x4 diesel manual tho and I only put 5k on it so can't comment on reliability
I have a 06 plate CRTD 4WD diesel. about 105k on the clock at the moment, had it from 10k as an ex demo.
I've mixed feelings about it.
MPG is actually not bad for a tonka toy, and it feels like a tonka toy as well. Mine pulls well, and has just enough room for a bike in the back (wheels on) with seats down.
However, the brakes are not sharp. They work, but have always felt soft.
lots changed under their 5 year warranty, then the clutch flywheel went, that was expensive, and cue about 2 years of one thing after another, all around £1k to fix, so fixable, but not nice. think we ended up putting about £3.5k into it over a couple of years.
Now it rattles, needs a few bits replaced as expected, and has settled into 'workhorse' mode.
we'd considered getting rid, but I doubt we'd be able to get anything near as functional as it for the cash.
