Say there's a gravel drive at the bottom of a fast descent on a corner and owners of the drive are none too careful about the gravel making it onto the road. If you were to crash due to the gravel who would be liable if anyone ?

I'm sure some lawyer would try that one on, on the grounds that an insurance company probably wouldn't fight it, but you could argue that you can occasionally find small patches of gravel and debris on any road, and should moderate your speed accordingly.

it is actually hypothetical the drive in question, that made me think about it, is on a relatively slow corner at the top of a hill and it's not a small patch!
Does your county have a website for reporting problems like that, assuming it's a public road. IIUC, once they've been told, it could be their problem.
