You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hi all, has anyone done any hut to hut hiking in the Julian Alpes? Looking at three days with wife and two kids (13 and 15 both keen walkers) then going to the coast for a bit if an explore after. Any advice or experiences. Would be appreciated. Looking at August is it crazy busy? Are we mad?
In Slovenia?  I did it a few years ago. Just picked rotes of a map. The routes are graded. Some of the huts were very basic but staying in a ww1 artillery spotters post near the summit of Krn was a highlight
Thanks TJ. Sounds like an interesting place to stay. Looking at booking a package trek which would include huts and some meals. Likely we would try to a get room rather than dorm. Not sure Mrsdts or kids would be keen on 3 nights sharing with smelly & noisy strangers.Â
Cicerone do a decent guide. I have a copy somewhereÂ
I walked there in the 80s. Very nice sceneryÂ
Hope to go back for the Slovenian haute route one day, hut to hut multi day
Watched this recently on the Julian alps, which might be useful:
Pick the right route and huts it should be possible to have a room might mean .missing out on some bits tho
I did a walk around Triglav a few years ago. Guided. I can send you the GPX files (probably). Can you still PM on the new forum?
We went with KE adventure travel - that would give you an idea. It looked simple to sort yourself. Maps and hut info is available online. You'd just need to plan and book. The more remote huts meant that numbers were limited. The ones we stayed in varied from almost hotel like to almost prison like.
We needed via ferrata kit for Triglav, not sure if you 100% need it but it was quite exposed in places.
Beautiful place. A few days in Bled at the end, playing on the luge and swimming in the lake was really nice.
If you can't get the combination of route/huts you want then consider a multi-day trek along the Kara****en ridge (Slovenia/Austria border). We've been on bits of it several times enjoying the glorious sun and the higher Julian Alps were in cloud (and probably much busier). Parts of it are stunning, there's also a nice via ferrate up to Hochstuhl/Stol

Thanks everyone. Looking at booking through a company as it seems easier and they should have the times and distances between huts sorted. I don’t want that responsibility with wife n kids in the group!Â
Kara****en ridge sounds interesting. Will look at that.Â
