You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I came of my bike at the puffer weekend before last and landed on my finger bending it back. Hurt a bit but I was fine to do a few more laps, just slower as I couldn't really brake very well. Swelling and bruising came up over the next 24hrs but nothing to worry about really.
Thing is, 10 days later it's not really any better. I can bend it gently to almost 90 degrees but not to apply any force.
I don't want to bother the NHS with it especially if there's nothing to be done beyond waiting , but I don't want to ignore it and end up with lasting problems.
So, how long should a hurty finger take to get better??
Really depends what's wrong with it. The swelling is there for a reason. Might just be bruising, might be ligament damage.
I bust up some fingers a while back, one was a definite fracture in one hand and the other hand had index finger swollen and bruised. While at A&E sorting the fracture they noticed the other finger and I just brushed it off as bruised, but they were more concerned. X-ray and turned out a ligament had partially pulled away a bit of bone. End result is a splint for a couple of months whilst it heals and to prevent damage that may need surgery.
Got a walk in centre near you? Could just get them to have a look. Or book a GP appointment. By the time you get to see them it's either healed or not.
Some of my fingers are swollen and bent/misshapen from crashes and other incidents. I reckon I've broken a few fingers but never done anything about them. Sometimes knuckles/fingers seem to get bigger once they've been whacked.
Yep, google Mallet finger, to check if you've not damaged a tendon at MIB joint...
Then you'll need a walk in centre/minor injury unit appointment and get a finger splint.
Worth getting checked.
Cat Zika, can I have your bikes once they're sterilised?
My wife fell and broke her left index finger in August 2013. Despite several operations it has never healed. Luckily it is the hand she can't use much due to her disability. Only hurts if she knocks it.
It was the post op sepsis that was the worst.
i (think) i put a minute hairline crack in a finger on my left hand a few years back out running of all things, ironic in that i've skated, surfed, rode bikes etc all my life and never broken anything (touch wood). anyhow point of the story is that it bothered me for a very long time, i often could not bend my finger without it feeling tight, and it was'nt until i started deliberatly doing clenches and stretching it that it sorted itself out. playing guitar really helped too.
