Looking to replace sky+hd with something cheaper.

Anyone got a Humax box? Can I utilise my sky cables and dish?

Appreciate your feedback.

Thanks!

Yep. Get the freesat freetime box. Use exiting dish and cables. There's even a smartphone app for remote setting of the recorder.

Humax is great, why anyone pays for Sky is beyond my comprehension.

I was a bit under whelmed with my Humax. It had good reviews so maybe I got a dodgy one. The Panasonic I replaced it with has been great. Either way Freeview/Freesat is great. Really no need for Sky unless you are real TV addict and don't have the internet.

Yup, Humax free view here connected to the sky dish that the last house owner left. Works a treat.
Murdock has enough money already, he is not welcome to mine.

Does your dish have two cables coming from it? If so you can use a Humax Freesat and utilise all of its functions. If it only has one cable you might like to upgrade the bit in the middle of the dish to get the most out of your Humax.

Sky+ HD has a quad LNB and dual feed as standard, so he's fine.

+1 Humax Freetime box here, works perfectly well and the UI is as good as Sky's - oddity is the volume control on HD and iPlayer is fixed output from box so only the TV remote will alter it.

I've got the humax freesat PVR. It's good, gives us all the channels we need plus recordings etc. Pic and sound quality are pretty good. It's a bit clunky/slow though - nowhere near as slick as Sky+. Still at £200 3 years ago in I'm happy to stick with it. When it goes pop if it can't be repaired I'll get something similar again.
