Having just broken my previous phone I got a Huawai P20 Lite on Saturday on contract .... Sunday's ride didn't record properly on Strava. It seems there are issues with these phones and strava. I have done the suggested fixes and will be trying it out.

Has anyone got one of these phones and has resolved the strava issues 100% please ?

I have chance to return the phone and replace within 30 days ... so trying to decide if I should or not ?

You have to allow Strava to run continuously, there's a menu where you can add apps to a "safe" list.

Will be fine then.

Chakaping - I have done that and it seemed to work while testing this morning - but I'm just trying to find out if that cures the issue 100% - thanks

The huawei p20 pro I have has great battery life but only because it aggressively shuts everything down if it thinks its not in use. You should get a message about a app using lots of power then have the option to allow it to run.

I used to get problems with Samsung phones in battery efficient mode stopping background data that also caused problems with trackers.

Chak,

where's that ? Unable to find an option like that ? I've kinda resolved the issue by buying a Garmin now, but that's a slightly excessive way of doing it 🙂

I have the same phone and the only problem I have had with trava is when I forget to press start. 🙂 The first time I ran it it came up with a warning about excessive battery use with the option to ignore. Since then I have not had an issue.I think you can change the setting in Apps. Go to settings. App launch then turn off Strava

Bookmarking.. different phone (OP5) but even though I have turned off battery optimisation for Strava and Wikiloc, they still stop and record a straight line.  Oddly, Wikiloc seems to remove itself from the 'not optimised' list.

Any power saving mode in Android tends to turn the GPS off whenever the screen is off - this might be the case regardless of individual app settings.

My last phone was a HTC with off-mid-high power saving accessible by the quick settings pulled down from the top of the screen. Anything but "off" resulted in exactly what you describe, bob_summers. I only realised after getting my phone out mid-ride, then later seeing strava had recorded wherever I had the screen on, but straight lines between those sections.

I got a new phone on Saturday, go Settings > Battery > Battery Optimisation, scroll down and select Strava > Do not Optimise.

I've not checked my route of yesterday's ride, but the milage was about right.

Cheers to the above guys, i've just done that....

I'll still keep the Garmin anyway, but would be nice to have a backup option of the phone.

I had an Honor (made by Huawei, but easier to spell) and had constant problems with Strava just stopping mid-ride - generally after 89 minutes IIRC.

I tried various settings but couldn't ever fix it.

I've got a Pixel now.

Mrs OC has a P20 pro and had this problem to start with, only way we managed to fix it was to put the strava widget on one of the home screens, has been running fine ever since.
