You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
As of this morning, ultra runner Paul Giblin has reached Glen Affric on the return stage of his epic HT550 run. As far as we know, this is the first solo attempt by a runner to set a 'First Known Time' for the classic route; he's 11 days in so far, 473 miles as of this morning and while Paul still has over 70 miles to go, in his terms, that's the end down in Tyndrum coming into sight soon.
That's pretty awesome - can't quite fathom it. And the midge have been a bit bity in the last few days!
Has he done it unsupported (food, shelter etc) like the bike race?
No, supported by a mobile crew. I think trying to 'fastpack' it is perhaps not achievable, simply from a logistical point of view. Happy to be convinced otherwise..
Paul has finished in about 12 days, 18 hours. I'd be delighted to get around the whole of the course in that time on the bike, let alone running an average of 43 miles, day after day on such challenging terrain. His latest message suggests that he was questioning his sanity at times. Top effort though.
