I would like to buy a heart rate monitor to use whilst on the exercise bike. Being a complete numbers nerd I'd like to be able to export data if possible to a PC.

Basic requirements are track heart rate across an exercise session (maybe HR every 15 secs), get max and average heart rate off it, be able to measure heart rate after a minute of finishing. Something that works.

My exercise bike used to do all that but it slowly got worse at measuring it consistently, replaced the monitor, improved for a while got worse. Bikes now over 20 years old so spares are not an option but think the bike will go for another 20 years, it's bomb proof. Recently been using a cheap unit from Tesco that came with a chest strap, also worked for a couple of years but now doesn't read my HR unless I'm really sweaty, tried changing batteries, cleaning the strap etc.

Anyway any recommendations sub £50?

Bluetooth enabled HRM strap and a phone app that syncs to PC post workout? Then a mount to plop phone onto exercise bike if you want to view the data whilst pedaling...

Edit: some Android phones have ant+ also such opens up more options for the strap

Wahoo tickr x, saves the activity for download later or transmit both ant and Bluetooth.

you can then download the .fit file from the app and convert it to excel relatively easily.

Added bonus I’ve just gotten an Garmin Strap so my Tickr is going spare, drop me a message of you are interested. in theory it also measures cadence.

Any cheap Garmin watch with ANT+ and a generic strap (or a Garmin one if you're feeling posh).

This syncs automatically to Garmin Connect and you can export this data as a CSV. Having said that the graphing over time and trends etc are good enough that I think doing more analysis on a spreadsheet is a bit of a waste of time.
