Ok, so first redundancy looming at end of the month. Scary stuff.
However had informal chat, followed by formal interview, etc. HR then contacted me saying that they wanted to take things further and asked for all benefits, etc. They then came back and advised that they believed I would be a good fit for the role but to avoid any challenge they needed to advertise. This they did and kindly called me before the role went on their website so I could 'officially' apply, which I did and they then called later in the evening to confirm application was in ok.
Last email from HR was just before they went on Xmas break saying they would have proposed offer to me early in New Year. They got back to work yesterday but no offer yet.
Am I being very impatient?
I would hope that HR would not state the bit about offer in an email unless they were pretty sure I was going to get the job and as I'm meeting the chap who is hopefully going to be my new boss for a cuppa and to discuss some more aspects of the role on Friday then I should be optimistic. However the pessimist in me is saying it's going to go t*ts up....which would knock me back a bit as I really, really want the job!
Perhaps a ride on my bike this evening followed by a beer to relax is what I need.... 😉

Afraid so, yes. Hiring decisions often need to go up many different ladders for approval, all of which takes time. At this time of year, as people get back up to speed after two weeks off, it's pretty reasonable for them to take a while.
That said, all sounds positive, so good luck to you!
So far hr will only just be halfway through who got what for Christmas and who needs fired after the Christmas party.
I'm currently doing the post-Christmas waiting game too. No strong hints either way, just a promise that I'd hear "after the new year" (my 2nd interview was the Friday before Christmas). Just wish they'd get a move on!
Waiting.....no news is good news and all that. I guess one issue is that something which is so personally important to us is only one thing in a list of things to do for others.
Good luck and hope it works out for you.
If this comes together for me I might be able to get a few new bike bits as celebration. However I sense that if it does then I might carefully consider all unnecessary expenditure.....just in case it happens again.....
I've never been out of work in my life and stuck with one employer as they had given me a good variety of roles, promotions, travel to nice places, etc, etc. At this moment all I want is a steady reasonably interesting job with an ok income - the rest is history.
Hope it works out, but you must realise that things sometimes do go tits up at the last minute. I recently had someone very interested in me, they created a role specifically targeted at me (discussed the spec with me), advertised it, interviewed one candidate (me!) and then decided....that they didn't want to fill the position at all.
Fortunately, I didn't take long to get over it 🙂 I just hope the numpties wasted a lot more time and energy over it than I did!
Also remember HR will not be making decisions here, they are purely there to advise the hiring Mgr with regards to process and issue the job offer as and when the hiring mgr makes their decision. Maybe an informal chat with said hiring mgr if you are getting impatient...
Thanks all.
It's the hiring manager who I am getting together with on Friday to further discuss the role, answer some specific questions I have about 2015 delivery focus areas, the team I will be leading, etc. He has already shared org chart and some high level focus areas with me plus answered some specific questions I had about status of some fundamental activities which the role should be responsible for.
I'm cautiously optimistic but also aware that circumstances can change fairly quickly - particularly if those higher up the food chain need to approve hires, modify their business to suit the environment or reduce staff costs etc.
See how it goes.....
OP, good luck - hope it all works out for you.
I'm up in the NE of Scotland and, like a number of now ex-colleagues, have been made redundant following reduction in oil prices and the need for companies to reduce costs. 27 years with my previous and only employer and was certainly grateful for the festive season following finishing just before Xmas. I'm fairly fortunate in that the redundancy package, etc was relatively generous so no immediate need to get just any job. However, I'd rather not have to rely on my wife for our monthly income and I'll be honest that watching others head to work in the morning as I am out walking the dog early on is a bit difficult to handle.
My fingers are crossed for you.

not in my experience - HR stands for 'hiring restrictors' - they seem to live on a different planet or have a different perception of reality from most normal people.
If you are now redundant and need to secure an income then you don't have time to wait for these guys, so start looking for something else just in case.
You may prefer whatever else you find.
