Were meant to be heading up to Bassenthwaite / Bewaldeth tomorrow for a week; however, we have just had a phone call to say the resort we we meant to be coming to is having to close due to the snow.
Just wondering if anyone is up that way that knows what the conditions are like? Have the option of waiting until Sunday and seeing if we can go up Monday instead depending on conditions or re-booking somewhere else in the U.K. However I think most places are going to be pretty snowy at the moment. Currently have a very disappointed/upset GF as it's her birthday on Friday and we had afternoon tea and various things booked ...
Were meant to be coming up to do some walking, running and ride local riding and Whinlatter, Grizdale, Newcastleton etc.
Just wondering if there is any hope of it improving around that part of the lakes by Monday and if any of those trails are going to rideable after all this snow?
Cheers
Main roads are all fine West of Keswick, and most of the the lower lying back roads are passible if you've got the right tires. It's a much better story over here that East of the M6!
I concur with Andy_K
The main roads and some of the back roads west of Keswick are fine. The road in from Penrith to Keswick was also fine last night, and there's not been any real snow today that I know of.
I think it depends on what road you're thinking of using off the main A66... for instance I wouldn't try Whinlatter just now.
This 'George Fisher' webcam in Keswick is handy to judge conditions

for info.. the roofs were still covered in snow yesterday... but you can see the walkways still have some snow down.
That webcam makes it look like there is less snow than we have here!
we are meant to be going to the Keswick Reach Lodge Retreat off the A591. I get the impression that it's the site that's having issues to e honest more than the local roads.
Im on Goodyear Egle F1's so not exactly a winter tyre... but the Volvo was coping in the snow pretty well today AWD working nicely.
Friends live in Bassenthwaite- the main A591 and village roads are fine but up the hill towards Robin Hood saw mill the back roads are impassable- he was unable to leave the house yesterday. The general area in fine (we are in Keswick) and a lot of accommodation providers are having cancellations, so I’m sure you’ll get something else in the area.
Any chance of an update on local conditions? Keeping fingers crossed the resort will reopen tomorrow and we can head up.
Had a look at rebooking somewhere else in the lakes but we were intending on taking the bikes and the deal we got on the resort means even if we get a refund we can't really afford more than a night or two else where...

Needs flash, but not showing a lot of snow lying at low levels. I wonder if snow isn't the issue for your resort. Perhaps the water supply to some of their units has frozen/burst?
Thaw is setting in at lower levels here (north yorks), so things are only going to get less snowy from now on.
UPDATE: Just had a call saying the resort is reopening tomorrow so holiday is back on with a bonus of a refund for two missed nights. Now over to the bike forum to check on trail centre conditions in the north...
