Yeh, I's got a new pumped boiler, and so far I've been thrilled,
But now my pipe's are a 'howlin'
And it's givin' me the chills

It's not actually a new blues recommendation, I really have got a new(ish) pumped boiler - about 9 months old - and it's been great; loads of hot water from a new cylinder, gas bills down by 30%, etc. But it has started to make the most awful howling from the (HW?) pipe to the bath upstairs. When we put the bath on, you can actually feel the floor vibrate - if you put the cold on first and gradually turn the hot on bit by bit you can either avoid or at least minimise if you 'feather' the hot tap on and off until it's fully open, but running a bath shouldn't be a Swiss Tony style operation.
Any ideas - there are a few plumbers on here and while I've googled I don't want to lead the witnesses.
(I get it might be a loose pipe in the floor boards but why is it suddenly a problem after 9 months)
You sure it's not washer/valve judder in the tap. We just had one in our downstairs sink and couldn't believe the racket it made.
Completely gone with a tap repair kit.
Our upstairs neighbors bath could be heard down the street. Cure was the previously mentioned tap washer
If it's not a combi boiler, check the hot water tank's "header tank" if you have one - our hot pipes used to rattle and howl when any hot tap went on, and I traced it to the filler valve on the header tank - bloody drove me crazy finding it. Replaced the whole valve, job done.
One tap, most likely as mentioned previously.
Interesting. Can't help I'm afraid, but have the same thing after the toilet has been flushed. As soon as it starts filling up the pipes start to howl (I appreciate that the toilet may be trying to tell me aomething). Noise goes away if I turn cold tap on in bathroom sink. Any insight would be much appreciated!
Yes part 2 ball valve washers can make that noise. When noise starts, flush toilet and see if it stops.
eddiebaby - thanks for that link. Loved it. 🙂
👍
Check your water pressure hasn't risen too high.
Ours makes the toilet rattle massively so you then have to go and turn the mains tap down to adjust the incoming pressure.
A regulator is ready to go on but needs a bigger hole in the wall making first!
