[Closed] How would I put wheels on this handle?

The handle resting on the floor is one end of my combined chopsaw and stand (possiblh made from flipping pig iron 😡 ) which can be wheeled when stood vertically. It carries quite a but of weight. I could really do with some wheels/castors of some sort so that when taking it in and out of the van, I can wheel it in and out until there's enough clearance to drop the existing wheels onto the ground. The wheels wouldn't get in the way once the saw stand is up. They'd need to be reasonably beefy - the weight of the saw and stand combined is just under 70kg.

Any ideas?

just under 70kg.

Any ideas?

Get down the gym a bit more often?

Get someone with a welder to graft on the wheels from an "abandoned" shopping trolley.

Whatever you get fitted, make sure it's non-marking.

Mount castors to a board and sit it on that maybe, rather than mounting direct to the frame?

Threaded rod, nuts, washers and some plastic wheels from Screwfix or an online seller. You could even get domed nuts to finish off outside the wheels. Bigger wheels come with pneumatic tyres (poor air retention though thanks to cheap tubes) and roller bearings.

If you are hoping to put the wheels on that black bit, I would be tempted to drill right though both sides and pass the axle through the holes but that would reduce the strength of the tubing so I would also look at maintaining their integrity by somehow clamping the axle mounts to that tube.

Oh y'know, it's more the awkward shape than the weight itself. 😛

I'm hoping for something I can do myself, rather than getting something welded.

Whatever you get fitted, make sure it's non-marking.

The wheels would only be used on the ply in the van or on the ground. Other than that they wouldn't come into contact with my (clients') floors.

That's what I'm thinking to be honest - I've just had a funny thought about a 70kg wheeled, unbraked load in the back of the van. Hmmm... 😕

I would run a threaded bar through the handle uprights just below the rivets, some washers and nuts inboard, washer outboard then through some 4"/5" solid tyre wheels from machine mart with nyloc nuts and washers on the ends.

I would run a M12 threaded rod with some sack barrow wheels.

Very rough artist impression:

Edit: Beaten to it-ish, by Stoner.

Edit 2:

Or, you could fit brackets to a wheeled platform, and just slot it in when you want to use it:

Jamie, your pictures say a thousand words.
But I type faster 😉

DD, threaded bar needs to be matched to the wheel axle diameter.

wheel like

12mm axle hole M10 would do it. Not a tight fit but as long as you're not pushing it far I doubt you'd need a bushing. Just grease the bar where it sits in the axle.
