I have an eight foot wide steel water tank to go on a six foot wide trailer.

I believe you're allowed 1ft/30cm overhang each side and an overall width of no more than about 3m so you should be ok.

put some bright tape/hi viz stuff on the corners and fit wing mirrors that are wider than the load/allow you to see behind and you should be ok.

Might be a starting point for you.

Overhang of loads

You can overhang the trailer with your load but you must follow the following guide lines.
from an Ebay guide

Up to 1m rear over hang is ok but we recommend it is clearly marked.

From 1m - 2m rear overhang MUST be clearly marked.

From 2m - 3.05m a marker board must define the end of the load and it must be illuminated at night.

Your load must not project more than 305mm either side of your trailer and not give an overall width of over 2.9m

I was right - Less than 300mm overhand and 2.9m overall width = no problem 🙂

I laughed out loud. It may end up as flat pack.

It's our old spring water supply tank. I'm thinking of getting rid of it now we are on the mains. It's about 12'x8'. Or, I could cut a side out of it and make a new woodshed. Rustic.
