I need a sheet of hardboard. It’s 2.4 m long and 1.2 wide.
They want £15 to deliver it. It won’t fit lengthways.
If I could fold it into a U shape it would easily go in the rear of my car widthways.
Thoughts?
It'll likely snap just at the point it was about to go in the car...
It's essentially a thin, super compressed MDF.
2.4m bent across the width of the car?
It bends really easily and fits in the car...
... and then snaps along the bend line when you drive over a tiny grain of gravel on the way home ruining the entire board.
Ask me how I know.
I strapped the next one to the roof, resting on a towel and drove home very slowly with my arm out of the window holding on to it to stop it flapping or blowing away.
Even if you can bend it it will still be fairly big.
I'd pay the £15.
Its pretty bendy, however it gives no warning that it is abut to fracture and so can suddenly just destroy itself. no chance of it being made smaller?
Do you really need it that big? If you're going to cut it when you get it then get the shop to do the first couple of big cuts for you (B&Q is free for first 2 cuts and other are similar). Even metre wide board fits much more easily.
Edit: or take a saw with you and chop it in the car park but that option is always hassle.
Not delivery related, just a note on its properties if you need it curved -
...
Take it outside and use the hose to soak it completely. while wet it will bend to quite a small radius. Allow to dry.
Hardboard is completely different to mdf or ply in that when wet it doesnt really expand or split apart.
Hardboard is MDF, or rather HDF. Exactly the same manufacturing process other than increased pressure during the pressing phase. It will split when wet. Exception being the internal use of thermoformable resins, which allow re-shaping of the boards under heat and pressure. Irrelevent to the OP needs.
What thickness is the hardboard, usually really thin so should have quite a degree of bend in it before you hear the crack...
Unless you want to be the latest numpty on a TikTok/Insta reel I'd get it delivered!! 🤣
People love a 'look at that **** trying to get that in his car' reel!

Yep, saw one of a guy cutting a 6ft fence panel in half right down it's height yesterday. I'd love to know what he had planned to fix it back together?
As others have said, if it's B&Q then get them to cut it to a size that fits. If you need it full size then either pay the delivery or hire a van. Or buy a van if you need some man maths justification.

Once got a call from a friend's neighbour asking if I could install a handrail they had bought for their stairs.
Turned up and they had cut it in the centre, like 50/50, so that they could get it in their car. The car was a Volvo estate..... Had they just removed the last 2ft it would have fit in their car and been more than long enough for their stairs.
They wanted me to fix the rail in the middle and use the three brackets they had bought.
Ended up getting another bracket and fitting two smaller lengths of handrail.
Cool story, I know.
