What hobbies or interests do you have where a £250 something would be significantly nicer than what you'd normally buy or use?

How long did you think it would take? In my defence, I had just been reading the drugs thread.

credit at your local garage for a service & MOT?

Or maybe a single semi-slick racing tyre?  👍

Nice problem to have. Depends what you enjoy dunnit.

Drifting experience (seriously good fun)

DJ lessons

Hotel in York/London

A quality piece of clothing

Navigation course

Climbing lessons

Bike jumping lessons

A tool (woodworking/diy, bike, garden etc)

Looking back up at my list the theme mainly seems to be something that you will continue to get benefit from in the future.

Normally you can get it in supermarket vouchers. Use them for your weekly groceries then in your head you have the money available to spend whenever you want on whatever you want and don't have to have specific vouchers

£250 voucher for wherever you do your family food shop

That's what I did with my 20 year service award, then the £250 we would of used for the shopping went straight in pocket ready to be spent on bike parts

Got knives

Got a genuine (and original)  1227 @tired

Quite happy with my job thanks, employee owned, profit shares and dividends this is just one of the various bonuses dotted aboot the place rather than a one off "treat"

Unfortunately the single racing slick is out of budget and might look a bit daft on my vauxhaul combo.

Carriage clock is out, this is a misophonia household.

I must admit my bingo card is still looking pretty untouched.

Decent pans, great idea. We have had ours since 2004, they've taken a battering and they look and behave absolutely brand new 21 years later. Sadly you can't get them anymore tho. Never thought pans would give me so much pleasure!

Has anyone suggested a £250 coffee machine?

Maybe a luxury item that's a bit more than you'd usually spend on that kind of thing?

A nice jacket, posh bag or pair of boots?

Or something fun like a paddleboard or inflatable kayak?

I was about to buy a new kayak when I was asked to choose my long service award, and I asked the company to pay part of the cost. To meet the rules they had to pay it direct to the kayak supplier. Straightforward until they found out he didn't do card payments (this was 2011) but eventually they managed to send a bank transfer.

Well since you haven't told us what you like I asked AI about you... (Jees, it's even given me your linkedin profile 😯). Scary stuff. I'm not gonna post AI's response on here

How about a cooking lesson for you and your kids?

Or a night here https://another.place/the-machrie?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22441623050&gbraid=0AAAAAoUg5cqc8jAT-cPDCWZat_qA-EDxQ&gclid=Cj0KCQjwovPGBhDxARIsAFhgkwSoF1r7-k52x18cWdssZi_hzzgyCJMXHUpuG2ShAX9ePZYZ4UtcNlQaAh1yEALw_wcB

AI suggested a portable coffee maker for your outdoor adventures, or bike packing bags.

Yeah, we've moved onto outdoor coffee makers now.

When I got my last long service voucher I was limited to certain shops so ended up just buying loads of tat...

Xbox Elite V2 controller

Sony noise cancelling bluetooth headphones

Vax carpet cleaner

New kettle and toaster

We we thought one of the replies would be "for that price its more like CorH"

Current front runner is surf lessons at lost shore. But you know inspirational alternatives like one race tyre could still swing it.

Sounds good. You'll ache after that. Other one that came to mind was something a friend did a while ago. Night time scuba diving lesson/combined with stargazing. In Ullswater I think

I got a 10 year service award of £250 in 2011. I bought my first dropper post with it.

I was looking forward to the £500 award for 20 years service but they scrapped it in 2020.

I would buy a stainless steel Metmo Pocket Driver and some accessories.

Too expensive to justify buying myself but I would love to have one.
