We have just booked a 3 night trip to Rome.
We have accom, but want to prebook tours and/or admission to sites of historical interest.
The priblem is that there is a bewildering array of different levels of admission, tour, queue skipping etc. Tripadvisor doesnt seem to help sort ine from another. Does anyone have any reccommendations?
thanks
Beener
what time of year? was there a couple of weeks ago. booked tickets for the vatican museum and just walked in easy enough.
st peters basilica was free and queued for 5 minutes.
pantheon is free, walked right in
trevi fountain best viewed at night
hadrians villa was one of my favourites but its a whole day trip as you need to get the underground and then a bus out towards tivoli.
book a table at il chianti just round the corner from the trevi fountain https://goo.gl/maps/Ph4jtqByDwR2
pop into here for a glass of wine in the evening https://goo.gl/maps/hHmCE43eAq12
this place had people queuing outside but didnt try it ourselves https://goo.gl/maps/AxdxbQnq22p
the park next to piazza del popolo is nice and you can hire segways or buggies for a bit of fun. also worth taking a look at this wine shop when heading up that way https://goo.gl/maps/QFWaaXxuL9T2 on the same street this place is worth a look for dinner but £££

fantastic gelato here by the vatican https://goo.gl/maps/Z4yM13Km7412
white chocolate and basil was nice here https://goo.gl/maps/gD996CnHg2v
avoid this place as though your life depends on it (it might just do)

im going on Tues! surprise visit with kids and Mrs B
Did you go to the Colosseum?
ah yes, other half booked the tickets for that too. very quick to get in.
lots of guides trying to help offering "jump the line" but we just told them we already had tickets and they were helpful showing us to the correct entrances.
OH is fast asleep so cant ask her which website she used, will ask her tomorrow
I was there on a busy week (by accident ended up at same time as a big religious event) and even then it was no problem to walk-up and buy a ticket for Colosseum at the door on the day. It's worth getting the hand-held tour gizmo for the Colosseum that has little video clips if they're still offering those, very informative, useful & fun. Capitoline Museum well worth wandering around too.
I spent 3 days in Rome a couple of years ago - we just walked around to see stuff and bought tickets to go in to things we wanted to see. I wouldn't bother particularly with the trevi fountain. A huge scrum around it even at midnight. Remember to wear the right clothes if yo want to get into the vatican - IIRC no shorts for men and women must have arms and knees covered.
Rocked up and paid the extra for the underground tour of the colosseum, worth the extra as you get to go down stairs away from the masses also out onto the area floor
Do the open-air bus. Book the Sistine chapel in advance. Everything else is easy to get into, but you just need to narrow it down. I go to the churches but that's not most peoples cup of tea.
Went a couple of months ago, pre-booked colosseum and vatican museum via citywonders.com, really good service and bypassing the queue at vatican was a godsend, queue was at least 1/2mile long, the guided tour helped as the guide very knowledgeable.
