You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Scenario:
Tablet owned by me
Used but my daughter - personal google account
Account is supervised by her mum (daughter is a minor)
Password reset as she'd forgotten it
Ok to this point BUT NOW to accept this it needs her mums password - she's my ex and obviously not here!
Keeps falling down at this point as she's not here, she texted the password to my daughter who the had to delete it immediately "for privacy reasons"
Is there any way of flattening the tablet (not under a car) that means it starts from box fresh without using the old password/her mums
Basically a factory reset - currently factory reset is taking us to the scenario mentioned above.
It's this thread away from going in the bin!
she texted the password to my daughter
why didn't that work ?
( I wonder if you just need to let her reset it all next time she's with your ex)
That's the only option I can see but that will take months
I assume my daughter made a typo and no way of checking
Shut it down. Power it back up holding both the power button and volume up. That will take you to a recovery screen in some Android devices where you can then reset it; though specifically with that device I don't know.
Failing that, take it along with a tenner to a local 'fone repair' market stall where smackheads go to fence their stolen goods.
I don't quite get it - yr ex is receiving an email with a recovery link for yr daughter's account ? Surely she can just forward that as it's not giving away anything about yr ex ?
No, she needs to type in her password into this tablet but she's not here. She doesn't want to give me her password understandably. My daughter asked for the password but had to delete it after memorising it, she's forgotten and it's not so pressing to ask again.
Want to know if their is a way round it
What's stopping the ex from changing her password to something temporary whilst her daughter resets the device, then changing it straight back again or to something else? She's handed it over once already so presumably trusts the daughter even if she doesn't trust you.
If it's too much trouble/grief to ask your ex each time this happens, I'd just bite the bullet and buy a new one, write the password down and put it in a safe place/cloud and wait until your daughter meets your ex to unlock the other one.
Sounds like the issue is with the Google account rather than the tablet. Is it possible to ask your ex to transfer the supervisor role to you, then you should be good to go.

Check on her phone that the deleted password isn't still sat in her messages recycle bin?
This is how factory reset protection is supposed to work. Don't think you can do anything without the password.
Can you setup a new user account on the tablet?
I seen to remember having multiple user accounts on an old Samsung tablet I had many years ago. If so, just create a new account for your daughter and delete the existing one...then sign in with her Google account
I can't get to the stage where it let's be do anything lol. I'll send it back with her and see what they can do
AHH FFS, typed a response and lost it
Your ex needs to add you as a parent in their Google family settings
https://myaccount.google.com/family/details?hl=en_GB&pli=1
Once that's done you will have supervisory access from the Google family link app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.kids.familylink
From the app menu, you can generate a parent access code if you need to login to the tablet and manage any settings
Also it's good for managing time limits and approving app installs and websites (if you have these locked down)
This is a Family Link / managed accounts thing.
If your ex (sensibly) has MFA switched on then not only will your daughter need to put in mother's password but also mother possibly needs to approve an MFA notification on her device at the same time or it will go nowhere.
Had to configure a new Family Link phone for my eldest over Xmas and so all fresh in mind.
Practically your ex probably needs to do all this in person if she's the only parent on Family Link.
