Painting the underside of my car port. Need to repair a dent to it and wondering what to use and how to do it.
Was thinking some kind of exterior filler and then smoothing it off, but should I chip out the old stuff first?

Will then look at sanding the whole lot down just to smooth out the edges of the peeling old paint, and then paint with some emulsion.

Any advice?
Yes. Cut it back to good and or to framing and cut and install a new piece. Scrim the joint if possible otherwise fill*, paint and wait for it to crack.
*I have applied gripfill to a joint which has worked a treat in the past.
