Got a male nearly 3 year old pedigree border terrier. Change in work hours means I haven't got the time he deserves. Kids have lost interest and wife works way too many hours. How is the best way to find a home for him? Don't like the idea of Gumtree/pets4homes etc.

When I had to come to the UK I had to rehome my pedigree Harlequin Great Dane. I could have got a lot of money for her but I advertised her free to a good home with the proviso they had to have a Great Dane already.

Got swamped with offers to buy her, but a couple turned up with their Dane. The dogs got on like a house on fire, and that was the job done. With another dog in the mix, I didn't have to worry about her pining.

The last time I was back in Oz, she had turned 12 years old - which is a big age for a Dane - she was blind and deaf, but still recognised me.

Good decision, she'd had a happy life.

Are you saying we have to get Loddrik put down? I'm thinking that 10p bag for life I just bought was a rash decision now.

There are Border Terrier Rescue locally - run by volunteers who will foster dogs and vet prospective owners? Heartbreaking decision but the right one for the welfare of the dog. We've just adopted a Labrador that needed rehoming - 14 months old and completely hyper - owner had three other dogs and kids and couldn't give her the attention - she was locked-in a room on her own as she'd destroy everything. A day later, she's curled up in our lap, not chewing everything and adorable.

No confusion, if you're careful it will last until the end of January.

Dog for Christmas 😀

If you want to get rid of it to a good home the offer it up for free and then visit and vet the new owners. Its the least and best you can do for it given the circumstances.

Aw, I would loddrick, but Liverpool’s a bit far. Good luck, but if you’re still struggling after trying other avenues, PM me. I might be able to make the trip up in that event.

Got someone coming to see him tomorrow. From Scotland. Western Isles. Experienced border terrier owners. Sounds good so far...

Hahaha!

Birmingham certainly didn't take long.

Oooh! Western Isles sounds like he's off to a good life.

Glad it looks like you're getting things sorted.

Some neighbours have 2 dogs that they kick out in the garden to bark for a couple of hours at a time and haven't walked once int he 8 months they've lived there.

For the dog's sake owners who have the time to look after and treat a dog properly are a lot better then those that take 'a dog's for life' view but can't put the hours or effort in.

Damn it I shouldn't have looked through your posting history.

Ok if you don't rehome him I'll seriously consider it, I've had borders since I was about 5 such cracking dogs. My shifts mean I'm at home a lot when the wife is at work.

I knew I should have avoided this thread.

Add me to the list of potential homes! Haven't had a dog since we lost our Airedale a few years ago and the wife was saying she fancies a smaller terrier as she likes the border that lives in the village we live on the NYMoors

I'm not a dog lover, I had to look on YouTube to see what a Border Terrier is. They do seem like good fun, I hope you find him a decent home.
