You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
After 3 years the inevitable happened and my daughter threw up twice in the back of my car. Backs of both front seats, rear carpet, her car seat and parts of the rear bench.
2 days later and despite a ton of Febreeze, after first cleaning up with hot soapy water, it still stinks.
And to top it off the sun has arrived to really bring out the aroma!
Shake and vac
Air freshener/perfume/anything strong
Smoke fags in the car
Patience it will eventually pass
Ask a minicab driver the next time you're passing a train station?
I'm sure this has been asked on mumsnet before - have a google...
Steal someone else's car. Or if that doesn't appeal more febreeze /disinfectant etc daily, and windows wide open at every opportunity.
carpet shampoo with organic compound destroying* enzyme in it. In my experience nothing else will touch that kind of stink.
*you know what I mean.
Pour milk on it the stench of that will cover it
Or I saw it in Colombia where they covered sick in coffee
Numatic george. A genuinely terrifying amount of disgusting brown uxcy minging water will result and you will most likely gag when emptying it. Highly recommended
Dakota Odour bomb
Also make sure you've really cleaned it all up, there are lots of nooks and crannies that make excellent vomit smell reservoirs.
Think happy thoughts when you have a sniff, and learn to love it. If you clean it up, the kid will just do it again.
Will also help you avoid giving the MIL a lift anywhere.
the sick shitty smell aroma is probably gone all the way into foam in the seats.. if you are really bothered by it, remove it and wash it then hang it dry, i heard it is going to be sunny this week then hang a net bag of charcoal in the backseat for the time being this would take out the smell.
My mate used a car odour bomb off ebay after he had a small fire in the car, worked a treat.
A couple of handfuls of coffee beans scattered over the impact zone. My neighbour has his kid throw up all over seats and floor. He thought I was nuts when I sprinkled the beans but a week later the smell was gone.
3% Hydrogen peroxide
Take the rear seat off, should be relatively easy. Then either bicarb paste and rub it in, or get pet carpet shampoo, the stain remover stuff. Rub it in everywhere and leave it. Then rinse. Use carpet shampoo cleaner if you can. Frebreeze is utter sh1te for this, all it does is mask the smell with something worse. This happened to me 2 days after I picked up my new bimmer.. Smell is long gone and kids are bow banned from the car at least an hour before food and drink..
Use a proper carpet/upholstery shampoo, spraying it with shake and vac or chanell No. 5 will just mask the smell. And not for long, and will probably smell worse.
Rug Doctor Pet carpet shampoo, you want the ones that gets rid of pet pee from carpet, that will break down the enzymes that linger.
Put child seat on top of car in future
Carpet shampoo rug doctor vax type thing febreeze and leave a material bag with cat litter in it over the patch.
Most importantly, get rid of the child so it doesn't happen again. 😈
I had to scrap my Mk 5 Cortina cos my nephew puked up in the back, went between the seats & everywhere. Haven't spoken to him since & that was 35 years ago.
Cut an onion in half and rub it into the contaminated area, honestly it works
Cheers
Nick
If you've got a dog, let it roll in fox poo and then carry it around in the car; it'll certainly mask the odour of child sick... 😀
Red wine and salt.
Autoglym odour eliminator, says it does this :-
Odour Eliminator is an active odour formulation that doesn'?t just mask smells, it destroys them.
Spray your mats, carpets and seats to neutralise unpleasant smells. We would always recommend a thorough clean with Interior Shampoo to remove the source of any odours, but if that is not possible Odour Eliminator is a great temporary solution.
It is especially useful for persistent smells such as smoke, pets or spilt food and drink.
Keep a bottle in the glove box and reach for when required.
My little one threw up his ice cream, after I made him finish it, as he said he had had enough after a couple of spoons. Boy did I regret that after hearing the joyous sound of up chuck behind you.
Anyway, a friend in the car trade recommended it, and it does work. My bottle is in the boot, along with a collection of plastic bags, kitchen roll, and baby wipes !!!
An entertaining thread after just reading the "how often do you redline your car" thread.
proper LOL at pukie head child
Bicarbonate of soda mixed with warm water.. and scrub
Ah the smell of parenthood. A smell that will transfer from car to you and linger. A smell to ensure that no fit childless man/woman will cast an eye in your direction ever again.
Enjoy.
You want some autosmart bio brisk. It's awesome for cleaning and the blurb on the front says "specially formulated to tackle blood, vomit and urine". What more can you ask for?
Leave a quarter pound of stinking bishop in the glove box for a couple of weeks at the height of summer, vomit of child will be music to your nostrils from thence forth
