a van has been parked up outside my house for a couple of weeks with no sign of moving, just checked online and it appears to have no tax or insurance.

So who would be the best people to contact to get it towed. No idea who owns it, don't really care, for reference it hasn't been taxed since 2012 according to gov website. So not interested in hearing excuses about i forgot or it has broken down.

You can report a non-taxed or abandoned vehicle on the DVLA website. Not sure of their response time/rate, but they do love to clamp untaxed vehicles to put a bit of a show on, so you might have to suffer it for a few days at least.

In our area you can report it to the Council

A search for the owner will be undertaken. In most cases if the vehicle is confirmed as being abandoned a Notice will be attached to it. On expiry of the Notice the vehicle will be removed and disposed of.

It is difficult to say how long the process will take as we may have to consult the Police, the DVLA and in some cases landowners, but we aim to have all abandoned vehicles removed within 14 days after receipt of notification.

Surround it with a small moat and call it Claude.

Build a dam in your moat and call it Jean.

Phone the police anonymously and say you've seen some gas canisters being loaded into it by some dark-skinned chaps.

Is it an unofficial traffic calming measure? I've seen that done around here.

Local council deal with these things where I am.

Recently the DVLA did a tax purge around all the areas where commuters litter their cars on the roads rather than paying for parking.  They clamped a bunch that weren't taxed, and removed the clamps after payment.

A black Fiesta was left clamped, and when I looked it up, it hadn't had tax or MOT for a couple of years.  Obviously the owner had decided the cost of the tax out-weighed the value of the car.  Reported it to the council and it was lifted within a day.
