To be texting in the middle lane of the M1 at rush hour whilst driving a van that bears your employers name? Openreach have a form on their website where you can report their employees. Isn't that handy? Any bets on the outcome?
A brush off...
I reported drivers to big companies before. Always seem to get the right noises in response but you've no idea if they actually act on it.
The form won't let you use the term "hard on", as in "I would expect you to come down hard on this behaviour", as it deems it unsuitable language.
Just ask them to bollock him.
Suggest that their employees should be using bluetooth car kits rather than having to rely on one of those hand jobs.
Form on their website may look convenient, but its also private, the public wont notice your complaint. Much better to tweet the issue.
as someone on here recently pointed out, how stupid is the average person?
Now reflect on what average means.... and realise half the people are more stupid than that.
Not as daft as the courier driver who decided to punishment pass me the other day then make sure I reported him by giving me an earful for some imagined transgression as I rode past him parked up a few hundred yards further on.
Apparently they're taking it seriously and will be interviewing him over the matter.
Apparently they’re taking it seriously and will be interviewing him over the matter.
More likely they will be cutting his target delivery times as he clearly has moments of leisure to sit about talking to cyclists.
Had one the other day who passed me too close, unfortunately for him he was delivering to the site where I work. Long conversation, he had no idea what he did wrong & was adamant he hadn't passed too close.
Reported him to the employer, they said they were taking action, but were not at liberty to discuss, but they did assure me it was dealt with seriously...
I got taken out my a van belonging to service dept of local bus company, wandered across the lane and knocked me off bike so i broke 2 ribs. Even with camera footage, neither the company or Police did a thing, still see the guy driving about in the same van, recently with both phone and fag in hand....
Selfish.
Just use voice hands free or park it.
If you’re dumb enough to risk your own life and others.
Or you could be as monumentally stupid as my neighbour who forced me off the road when he overtook on the brow of the hill, chatting to his passenger. The thing about personal plates is that they are memorable and 10 years on I still remember it, B4C**. I confronted him when I got home and made it very clear that if he endangered me or my kids again I would not be a smiley happy bunny. I'm mates with some of his peers from his schooldays, apparently he was a **** then as well as well.
When we met him again soon after, he really hated being called by his school nick-name. Which was a pity.
My employers (stagecoach) do take action against this type of behaviour.
anyone reported by a member of the public for phone use will be investigated, all our buses are fitted with cctv, and it will be checked if an allegation is made.
however, I feel it’s only fair to point out that people do like to exaggerate when they complain, i can attest to this, as i have had 3 serious complaints made about me in the last few years.
In all 3 cases i was proven innocent due to cctv and other systems fitted to our vehicles,
one of the allegations was for mobile phone use, but the camera clearly showed it to be false.
just because you don’t hear about what happens, doesn’t automatically mean nothing happens, decent companies do act if there’s a reason to act.
I got pulled by the Guardia Civil for using a mobile while driving a van while in Spain last week...... They came alongside with blues and toos waving me to stop, right up until the moment when they realised the "driver" on the phone was actually my passenger and I was sat on the other side of the (UK) van 🙂
Quick shrug and blue lights off and waved on my way. At least they were awake though...
