but the ‘Treehouse’ accommodation option at Longleat (£9,898 for seven nights from 12th August 2022) is fully booked for most of this year and a lot of next year!!

Yes, but surely that gives you the option of threatening your kids with being thrown to the lions if they don't behave, thus ensuring you get some peace and quiet?

You can't put a price on that. Well... you can. Its £9,898 for seven nights 😂

It's just the way the wealthy do stuff, like flying first class, plane still gets there just the same, but if you have the money why not?

They don’t send out marketing emails, they send out ‘Intel’.

I especially love that the mouse turns into crosshairs…

I think this quote could change my life.
I will now say it out loud every morning .

“No man has the right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training. It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable.

oh that Thrudark website is ****ing hilarious!

I particularly like this photo of The Team. Presumably they had to wait until the all the people in jeans and anoraks dragged their kids and grannies out of the way of the trig point first.

if people want to pay that fair enough, their choice, up to them. Sounds like they get a fair whack for their money anyhow, whether adds up to 15k of value is for the individual to decide.

Anyhow, on the route, does seem like an awful lot of road, the bit in particular on day 2 that goes round the road at the top of loch fyne on the A83.. Is there a a path there they can use these days? I cycled that bit on the road once, it's a horrible bit, very busy, can't imagine they'll get it shut off? Or is there a path? or I guess they could just go cross country down some parallel old logging route maybe.... I've always thought there should be a cycle path going round there cause you can cycle up from glasgow basically traffic free till that point, and it's a bastard of a bit.

dy 3 down to portavadie seems an odd choice too when there's tonnes of forest roads to use instead of that coastal road, not sure how busy that is mind, never been down it.

No.2 is definitely Compo from Last of the Summer Wine (for our younger reader, that was a TV documentary about STW posters).

Those aren't beards.....advanced bumfluff at best.

However, for an additional £15k I'm willing to provide a six month beard fitness and training course, complete with tips on soup management,
a personalised anti bogie trap device and a multifunction tangleknot tool.

This time next year Rodney.....

Knew of a few "chaps" in London who would share a helicopter charter up to Scotland for a weekend's shooting. This is next level though!

Credit to the organisers though – if they manage to pick the pockets of 40 wealthy blokes to the tune of £600K then fair play. They’ll be earning it on the day mind – imagine being beholden to 40 mega **** for 4 days?

I doubt the frontline staff will see much of that money.

30 miles a day.

Pfft.

What it will be is the most carbon-intensive "ultra" marathon on the planet. But then that's what the ultra-rich are - the most carbon-intensive section of society by several orders of magnitude.

If you want to make very quick and easy headway into global warming there's a section of society that could be "rubbed out", so to speak.

Not that I'm advocating outright violence.

Or am I? 😉

The company also organise 4x4 tours and the NC500 by supercar...

Just wanted to put that out there so that we can hate them even more. 🙂

The parts of NC500 I've ridden on my bike, I seemed to spend a disproportionate amount of time stuck behind camper vans so I can't imagine a supercar being the best method of transport around it. Be stuck in first gear for a lot of it! Wouldn't fancy reversing a Lamborghini on some of those bends either.

They won't do badly. See comment from above by someone who worked a simialr trip.

Theres this TV show my Mrs watches about a luxury yacht charter company, the workers get the bare minimum wage but pull in an astonishing amount of tips. They all absolutely hate most of the guests and put up with all sorts.

I'm not an ultra-runner, but if I were the words 'luxury and exclusive' are enough on their own to put me off.

Whilst £15k for a few days running in rainy Scotland feels like a lot of money to most of us, the target audience are the sort of people who are paying £600 for a T-bone steak covered in gold leaf at that Turkish blokes restaurant, before retiring to their £5k a night 'luxury and exclusive' penthouse room in the Shard.

Ultimately it compares pretty well to 'luxury and exclusive' F1 hospitality weekends, Golf trips and the higher end of the cruise market.

Good on them.

I can imagine paying all that money so that no one outside my social circle knows about it.
That said I'm not gauche enough for these sorts of things.

It’s ok though as it’s biodegradable

I genuinely think that a) this is proper vandalism and should be looked at from a legal perspective and b) the organisers should be out scrubbing this off.

Which also changes the chemistry of the rock surface, harming lichen on the rock.
Huge visual eyesore.

How the hell did someone think this is acceptable? small flags on canes are the usual way of marking things - or ask these 'elite' athletes to actually navigate....

Tey did claim they were going to do that the day after the event, like that would have made it OK. I'm guessing they didn't then.

They said this according to the BBC article:

"Living and working in the area, the team are acutely conscious of the environmental impact that events such as Highland Kings have" they told us.

"As such we sourced and used high quality biodegradable chalk for the event, but we are aware of the impression any sort of marking can have, so had always planned to have a team returning to the course this morning (the day after the event) to wash down all surfaces.

But then fail to mention why they haven't done it, how long before or even whether they're going to do it, just that 'we planned to'.... but must have obviously decided **** it instead lets let the paupers whinge on social media about it instead.

The main thing is they 'sourced' it. That's how you buy things when you want to sound all billy-big-bollocks.

At a guess, most people able to spend that kind of money on an event are unlikely to know how to use the gadget that is on their wrist and need that sort of visually offensive marker to guide them round.

It sounded completely pretentious when it was first published due to the price and it trying to sound far more fancy than it probably is (and to try to justify the environmental impact it creates - speedboats to make it sound proper flash) - this stuff just confirms it really was.

I do hope someone is taken to court and made to pay a very large fine and put right the mess.

Are you expecting them to want to use it? It is a statement to put on wrist to start a conversation for people with that kind of money. They have no interest in how to use something...

Just read that description of running up Goat Fell on the running mag link above. That is a total parallel universe!
One of the times I went to Arran for a weekend was because a mates wife was running a fell race round including Goat Fell. The weather was minging, we went climbing and got soaked, a load of fell runners ran their race with no real drama (unless the race was close but we didn't see that bit), and got soaked, lots of beer got drunk and we got a bit midged.
Great weekend but no coaches, unless you count the bus from ferry to the campsite. I see the point of a trail race over 5 days but guess most of us are destined never to get the need for all the rest of the bling.
And not cleaning up after a fell race w.t.f?

Some peoples shoulder chips are showing a bit on this thread!
If you spoke about base rate tax payers in the same way as some are about people with more than average income the ban hammer would be out!
Each to their own and all that.
The route marking is a dick move by the organisers though, not going to disagree about that!

If I was being harsh,Probably pretty abysmal other real ultra marathon runners would probably wet themselves laughing at some rich wannabes times.

It’s a niche event aimed at a certain type of audience.

Best non-apology ever.

"The event was as planned"
"Sorry we upset you"
"We are really good at this"

https://twitter.com/KingsHighland/status/1521480498744377347?s=20&t=mquQzF63ZS_JmzzJuve8HA

Even better, other people are uncovering missed signs and missed chalk markings.

Not only have they cocked up environmentally, someone hasn't read the book on how to deal with such issues from a communication or action point of view.
