Wiper blades?

What sort do you get?

Mine have gone a bit smeary but not split.

Dr Google seems to suggest recommended interval is 6 to 12 Months but I can only imagine this is manufacturers/fitters looking to drum up sales rather than genuine need as I never change them that quickly.

Whenever they get smeary. Bosch from eurocar parts.

Current ones have been on almost 3 years I think

I don't change them every 6 months, that's for sure. Maybe about 3 years. Usually bosch or own brand aero blades from wiperblades.co.uk.

When they start leaving inchish wide smear strips in light rain.

When they stop working properly.
Or when one flies off on a Belgian motorway.
These have been on the van since I bought it three years ago, and they weren't new then

I check pre-MOT and replace of necessary. The van hasn't had new blades for at least three years. Of course, that could also be a reflection of how many miles it does 🙂

Bosch Aerotwins, get a good few years out of them. Would probably get more if I ever washed the car.

I had a set of the Halfords one-piece blades on my Octavia, and they lasted around five years, if not a bit more. The OEM ones on my EcoSport started to fail after two years, tried the Halfords ones, and none of the adapters would fit the arms, even one of our mechanics at work couldn’t get them to fit, and he used to work for Ford. I had to cough up for Ford ones, which cost over £30, the Halfords ones were £15… 😡

🤔... Nice timing.

The ones on my Ducato are the originals from factory and despite only being used properly for the last few months they are pants.

Any recommendations for decent blades? Use rainX and will put another coat on when it stops raining.

Bosch every time for me. Work well, cheap enough on Amazon or Halfords (and probably ecp), easy to fit.

I always use bosch also.

I find certain cars eat them more than others. The rear one on my 108 seems to last only 6-8 months - same on the land rover.

I suspect it's cause they are both teeny 10 inch blades.

Every couple of years for me. Bosch aero twins. Normally from ECP but Halfords were cheaper a few months ago.

I don't really use the car any more, but my wife does. So gave the blades to her to fit. They've been sat in the boot for about 2 months now as she hasn't got the time to fit them.

Not sure whether to laugh or cry 🤦🤣

Do people change the rubber bit or get the complete clip on thing ?

When Renault change them, they've been on nearly three years, they might change them at next month's serve. Even that will be a waste, they work perfectly.

Mine have gone a bit smeary...

Give the screen and the blade a clean with soapy water, Aldi Power Force window spray (or similar 🙂 ) to finish. It's surprising how much muck will come off a blade and make sure that any pivots on the blade actually pivot.

I buy whatever blades my local motor factor has, Bosch Super Plus last time, and change them roughly every two-three years when cleaning stops working. Complete blade for me

Is that even a thing now? Edit - getting just the rubber bit?

I replace with Bosch blades - whichever ones are available. The ‘aero’ ones with the profile to keep them stuck down on the screen typically come on our cars but aren’t always easy to get afterwards … for a reasonable price.

Usually replace when they start making streaks or noise that isn’t cured by cleaning. Historically about every 12-18 months. Now probably every couple of years.

Edit. Depending on the ones I’ve gotten hold of I sometimes have needed to perform an adapter transplant for them to fit the arms.

Bosch Aero every couple of years or so, whenever they get squeaky or smeary. I never used to bother, but what a difference it makes!

Thanks @jeffl I had been looking at ECP and other places, but your post reminded me to check Halfords. They were cheaper and then the free membership gave me another £5 off at checkout. The only minus is that the rear was not in stock at my local shop, but the free delivery made up for it.

I've been using PIAA blades for years. They leave a silicone film, a bit like Rain-X, that the rain rolls off. The silicone effect does wear out after a year or two and they work like normal blades, so I usually don't get round to changing them them until they start smearing.

Seems to be when the windscreen needs replaced due to a crack...if that is correct then I'm 6 months overdue!

I just change mine when they stop working properly, I haven't found that premium ones last any longer than cheap aero ones, I think there seems to be some luck whether the wiper and windscreen interface well.

Driver's side changed 35 months ago, passenger side about 32, Bosch Aerotwins. I only paid about £25 the pair and they're not something I'd skimp on but they're still clearing the windscreen just fine. The rear wiper needs changing a bit more often, I put that down to it wiping a near-vertical screen and having to shift way more clag without help from the airflow.

Bosch here. Replace when noisy or don't wipe well. I do keep the blades clean.

I’ve just put new Bosch aero twins on the van. I think they normally last 2 years but I wonder if the super hot summer we had this year will have killed everyone’s wiper blades so we’re all replacing them now
