Thats pretty much it really.
I reclassed our minibus when we pulled the seats out of it as a PLG (Private light good), so it went up from £165 to £320 PA, but my OH has been fishing around and cant find where theyre getting these numbers from.
On some sources, PLG includes regular cars, as well as vans, so its purely based on emissions.
Others suggest its a flat commercial vehicle rate.
My Van is Euro6, but we seem to be paying "not even Euro 4" prices by some data.gov information.
Tax doesnt have to be taxing, but they decided they would make it opaque as they could anyway.
Im under the impression that a Van (<3500 kg) is 320 quid (and rising) and thats the end of it. Have i been mis informed?
I paid £290 last October, so £320 seems about right. (2.0 TDi Renault Trafic).
I’m pretty sure every PLG is £320 at mo.
My 2014 SWB T5.1 Kombi is £320 too.
£598.50 for the first 5 years then £189 a year. 2018 so based on the post April 2017 rates.
£320 pa on pre- April 2017 is Band I: 176 to 185g/km
£25.37 a month by direct debit for a 1.9L SWB T5
Recently paid £320 for my T6.1 Kombi (T32 2.0 bi turbo) .
£575 this year. Goes up each year. About £350 of that is some sort of penalty for having a vehicle priced over £40k rrp. Emissions based, not
Seems pretty cut and dry then. Thanks team!
my caddy is £320
Paid in October 2022 £275 for our 2020 VW T6.1 T30 2.0cc diesel.
Free until 2025
£20 for my mpv. Gets bikes and family in, isn't as much of a status symbol. Ho hum

You're maybe mudding the water by thinking of it as a 'van'. PLG is a classification that covers both cars and vans in terms of how vehicles are registered and in terms of driving license entitlement - 'Private or Light Goods' - but cars and vans aren't the same thing in the eyes of the tax man.
To be a van in tax terms (for VED, VAT and so on) a vehicle can't have seats or windows behind the B pillar - taking the seats out of a minibus and reclassifying it as PLG may well have turned it into a 'car' in the taxman's eyes, not a van.
Commercial vehicles are £320 now, was £290 - https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax-rate-tables/other-vehicle-tax-rates
Nissan nv200 combi with all the rear seats taken out, essentially a van, is about £165.
If I bought the actual van version it was double at the time, plus more insurance, plus lower speed limits, plus it cost more to use the Welsh bridge at the time, plus hassle going to the tip.
Private HGV (5t) Horsebox/Camper/Van. £165 per year
@superfli, £42,000 book value, though we got it second hand/did not pay that.
My 2010 Euro5 T5 van falls in a tax hole (and long may it continue). Means my VED is £140 a year and has been since 2010! The special Euro 5 sweetener only lasted for 12 months but is worth considering if looking for an older van as savings over a few years are not inconsiderable.
@Sandwicheater - ah, yours must be an LGV so lower tax. Mine is classed as a car (Tourneo) which explains the difference. Obviously when I go through a toll both, its classed as a van.
£395. 2.5l Euro4 though.
£320, 62 plate T5.1 (ahem) Cali Beach 2.0l 114bhp, Euro 5.
2017 euro6 2.0 Transit Custom dual-cab, £320 VED due this month for me. It's been creaping up the past few years:
2017 £240
2018 £250
2019 £260
2020 £265
2021 £275
2022 £290
2023 £320
£320 for my caddy too.....
What goes up and never comes down?...... tax
Twice as much as what I'd pay for an MPV with exactly the same engine, annoyingly. Same, Caddy, £320

My 2016 VW Cali Beach is £290 vehicle tax a year.
