Paid £8 earlier for a roll of gaffer tape in an emergency from an actual shop. I can't remember how much it was last time as it was so long ago. I've still not recovered. Eight. Bloody. Quid... For tape ❗ I'm never leaving the internet again.

Our local hardware store is cheaper than anyone for anything....and you can buy one bolt if you want.
I love rummaging through all the bits and bobs.

Supply and demand, innit.

Personally, I still mourn the passing of the "hey, do you want to listen to a tape?" gag.

The rolls at the poundshop from "the Tommy Walsh range" are a little on the small side. The £8 roll must have loads more on it.

Doesnit actualy stick though.

My experiance of cheap copies of duck tape is variable.....if i have the choice ill stick with duck brand if i can.

One things for sure , cheap or not it sticks to its self better than what you want to stick it too 🙂

Ah, the 4th stage of being mugged off. Telling everyone it's reassuringly expensive 😛

I think that's just inhumane and cruel.

Not as bad as the cat treats (Thrive or something similar) that I saw in Sainsbury's earlier - £3 for 15grams, so that works out as £200 a kilo! 😆 they saw somebody coming with that mark-up!

On my second consumer advice post of the year, DO NOT buy selco 50m x 50mm carpet/duct/duck etc tape. It's pathetic. Mind blowingly pathetic. You'd be better of using the spit from a dehydrated squirrel and bog roll.

DO however get the equivalent own-brand from Selco. Very good in comparison and works in wet.

Yours, Esther Rantzen.

... and may I remind everyone that the correct term for this item is hostage tape

Would also remove some of the risk of withering* punnage

*(ahem)

I was just doing the washing up and thought "Did I say Selco twice?"

Clearly, I did. Nob.

Recommendation was for Screwfix's own brand tape, although I fear damage is done 🙂

Edit: Some good punning up there though!

For tape I'm never leaving the internet again.

So today you could have lost the rest of your day, walked back to the car or paid more than £8 for a taxi. The hidden cost of using the internet is that there won't be any shops left to help you out there and then.

Op - paying that much you must have felt you were being goosed. These shops are just daffy with their pricing, eh?

We have 'gaffa' tape at work that's over £50/roll.

People use it to tape up parcels 🙄

http://www.flints.co.uk/acatalog/Matt_Gaffer_Tape_50mm_wide.html

6.80 at Flints for their standard stuff which is similar to the posh stuff.

Cheap gaffer should be banned.

I paid £10 for a roll of gorilla tape at the weekend as I wanted something decent to tubeless my wheels. I did pick up one of the smaller £2.70 rolls but then realised I needed wider and opted for the wide 32m roll for £10 over the 11m roll at £6 as it seemed silly no to for 3x more tape.

In then remembered I had 2 new rolls of 3m stuff I bought for £5 a roll in lidl a while back in my tape box (yes I have a tape box as I have a stock of tapes used for composite manufacturing and testing).

But I have to say this gorilla stuff does seem very good and is supposed to be UV stable so I have just the job for it where other tapes have failed.

Oh and yes in the past I had tried some cheap toolstation stuff and it was gash. Dad used to get good stuff from RS when I was a kid and the cheap stuff just didn't compare.
