13

4cycling shoes

2 smart shoes

2 casual shoes

1 hillwalking boots

1 steel toe boots

1 wellies

1 trail shoes

1 slippers.

Anybody else but in pairs? At Size 13 wide I hate shopping for shoes. So when I need new casual shoes and find a pair I like I buy 2. Wear alternate days. Airs them properly between using. Twice as long before the next search for shoes

2 pairs of 5.10s.  one (pre Adidas) in everyday use, for pretty much everything, as it’s the only pair I can get my feet, associated padding and insoles in. Post Adidas are waaay too narrow.

couple of spds

dress shoes

walking boots.

Probably 30 all told?

Threw 3 pairs away last week.

Bought 4 new pairs since beginning of May.

~10 pairs of cycling shoes, plus same again of sneakers and trainers then wellies (x2) as well, hiking boots (5 different "weights" from "walking with the kids for a couple of hours" to "hiking across the Lakes with a full rucksack in terrible weather"). Two pairs of birkies (worn with socks of course) flip flops, pool flip flops, beach flip flops, sliders, 5 fingers, two pairs of safety boots... No crocs though. Never crocs.

Hobbies need shoes though right?

Motorcycling - 3

Biking - 5 (SPDs and flats)

Walking / hiking - 5 boots, 2 shoes, 2 wellies

I'm stopping adding them up at this point, but there's still work shoes, every day trainers, sports type trainers, watersports, sliders, work boots etc. Feet don't grow so as long as you can store and find them they're always handy

Probably have 20+ pairs of gloves! And well over a dozen rucksacks

1x Work shoes

1x Brown Brogues

1x Doc Martins

1x Kilt shoes

2x Dress shoes

4x Casual trainers

2x SPD

2x Flat pedal shoes

1x Winter SPD

1x Road shoes

1x Tennis trainers

1x Squash trainers

2x Gym trainers

1x Gore tex hiking trainers

1x Snowboard boots

1x Wellies

1x Asda sliders

Eek, 24 pairs!!!

In fairness, the racquet sports shoes are 15 years old and still good condition and hardly used these days, but still worth keeping, same with the snowboard boots. Kilt shoes (and kilt) have paid for themselves years ago as they are my go to for weddings etc. Probably do have  too many cycling shoes as I mainly ride flats these days but they’ve all been bought now so no point getting rid.

Trainers, work shoes and Doc’s on shoe rack in front porch,  Wellie/ boot rack there as well  Cycling/ outdoor shoes on rack in utility room that comes in from back garden. Dress shoes in boxes in wardrobe. Gym shoes in plastic storage tub in bedroom cupboard  Snowboard boots somewhere in same cupboard.

Oooooh, snowboard boots x 3. Forgot about them.

(And they're everywhere, next to the front door, next to the back door, next to the side door, in the storeroom, in the walk in wardrobe, in a shoe rack in the hallway, on shelves in the bike room.)

FWIW, they don't tend to die until i've worn shoes for *years* i don't roll my feet, or drag them, so the soles last until they are uniformly bald. My son rolls his foot and drags them sometimes too, so he has 3 month old shoes that you can see the inside structure of the sole, his mum is the same...

good hiking boots
crap hiking boots
2x gardening trainers
4x nice trainers
suede clarks
smart boots
smart shoes
wellies

that's 12 pairs, if you don't count my slippers.

EDIT also snowboard boots, which I haven't used since 2005, but I do think they're still in the loft somewhere

4 prs approach shoes (2 of them in reserve, i.e. as yet unused)

3 prs SPD shoes

5 prs walking boots of various weights (as above, 1 pr in reserve)

2 prs running trainers

2 prs 'knockabout' trainers

3 prs rockboots in varying states of repair (1 of them's at LSR getting resoled, for instance)

2 prs smartish work shoes

1 pr presentable suede boots for going-out to restaurants etc (these don't see much use at all...)

1 pr crocs for in/out of the garden

1 pr slippers

So 24 in all I think, much like a couple of previous respondents above. Maybe I don't have a problem after all.

Most of them on the shelf/cupboard in the garage, or in the bedroom wardrobe, apart from a couple that live near the front or back doors respectively
And rather like @benp1 up there, I think we probably need a "How many rucksacks do you own?" thread too, possibly to include bumbags/hip-packs in the count for completeness.

Does this include all your heavily worn shoes kept in the garage?

If then there is probably 20+ pairs.

I currently have:

  • 2 x flat pedal shoes
  • 3 x spd mtb shoes
  • 1 x road shoes
  • 1 x walking boots
  • 1 x running shoes
  • 1 x work shoes
  • 1 x steel toe boots
  • 3 x general boots, shoes and trainers

So 13 pairs. Quite a lot but no Imelda Marcos

Walking boots

Chest Waders (does that count)

Two pairs of desert boots

One pair of Wallaby boots

Brogue boots

Brogue shoes x3

Dr Martens

4x casual trainers

3 climbing shoes

5 trail running shoes

2 regular running shoes

3 skate shoes (probs gonna buy another pair today)

1 general trainers

1 smart boots

1 smart shoes

1 less smart boots

Think that's all of them. 25. Pretty much all get worn though, apart from a pair of climbing shoes I should definitely bin and a pair of trail shoes that have no tread left. Well, and the smart stuff, but that's just for when it's needed.

wellies, walking boots, couple of pairs of casual trainers, 3 pairs of casual 'not trainers'. couple of pairs of DM, 3 spds (winter pair, autumn-winter boots, and spring-summer disco slippers) what's that? 12 pairs, 3 of which are pretty specific.

I've no idea if that's good bad or something in between. I've not really thought "I need a pair of 'x' shoes" so I guess about normal for most folks?

About 19 pairs I reckon. Most of them are pretty old. I throw them away less frequently than I buy them. And I don't buy them very often.

A lot of the newer ones are presents that I have asked for, at Christmas or birthday.

Newest pair is about 3 weeks old (Adidas Terrex Hiking Shoes - recent birthday present)

Oldest pair is probably some 18 year old Hi-Tec hiking boots.

Blimy - Imelda Marcos would have been proud of some of the above posters.

1pr walking shoes

1pr of the same but older that I use daily

1pr hiking boots

1pr SPD shoes

1pr walking shoes where the grip wore down to the point of being nearly slick so I use them with flat pedals

must have a pair of black shoes somewhere from before lockdown, but not sure where

agree with this 100%

just looking at what i own. my summer walking shoes are Peter Storm leather things, which are also very comfy on the bike, so the 5 tens could go. they also clean up very nice, so the clarks day shoes could go. and i dont really use spd's, so they could go.

so my list could easily become 4 pairs.

Currently switching between more clip-in shoes (4) than trainers (2) and slippers (2). Some other pairs like proper shoes and boots, but they have been gethering dust for many months!

Better up mine to 26. Forgot about a pair of hiking boots and the Sketchers I wear around the house.

theres very few everyday situations a black pair of 5.10s aren’t usuable.

For a lot of peoples jobs, that still not true. A couple of my contracts specify "smart business wear". Anyway, who wants to wear boring black trainers the whole time? I'd also like to see the gym managers face if I turned up to play squash in a pair of those. Banned for life.

I think we probably need a “How many rucksacks do you own?” thread too, possibly to include bumbags/hip-packs in the count for completeness.

No, just no.

Far too many!

  • 3 x 5:10 freeriders (1 smart 2 scabby)
  • 1 x posh shoes
  • 1 x kilt shoes
  • 1 x wellies
  • 1 x walking boots
  • 1 x winter climbing boots
  • 4 x walking shoes
  • 2 x road shoes
  • 1 x gravel shoes
  • 2 x mtb shoes
  • 1 x winter mtb shoes
  • 1 x sandels
  • 1 x flip flops
  • 8 x rock shoes
  • 2 x running shoes
  • 2 x safety boots
  • 1 x ski boots
  • 1 x snowboard boots

34 pairs! But some of my doubles stay out at my folks house in France to save me carting them back and forth. I do need to cut down on the rock shoes.

5 pairs of bike shoes (various states of wear, flat and spd)

Smart shoes

casual trainers

running shoes

walking boots

flip flops

crocs (garden and driving to-from bike rides only)

cricket spikes

that doesnt seem too bad. problem is probably another 5+ pairs of old worn out versions of the above, kept for some reason as a "just in case"

For the "5:10 for everything crowd", do you wear new ones as casual wear then demote them to biking? or have lots on rotation? or just wear one pair for everything until they are dead?

Now this topic is right in my hitting zone.
Cycling shoes x 4 (winter, MTB, winter road, summer road)
Hiking x 2 (summer shoes, winter boots)
Running x 15 (ish, including 2 pairs of spikes, full breakdown available request…)
Casual trainers x 12 (again, ish, lots of Air Max’s, a few Gazelles, a few others)
Leather formal shoes x 5 (1 x dress, 2 x brogues, 2 x formal black)
Causal leather boots x 2
Flip flops x 4
Football and cricket boots x 4 (hard and soft ground for each, rarely used)
That might be it, maybe.

20 pairs - that's a bit of an eye opener:

  • 2 x everyday trainers (New Balance 574 and Vans old school)
  • 3 x MTB flat pedal shoes (Waterproof Five Tens, canvass Five Tens, and a pair of Ride Concept for pumptrack)
  • 2 x clipless shoes (MTB flat sole pair, and SPD gravel type boot
  • 4 x smart shoes (Oxfords and Brogues', black and brown of each)
  • Smartish brogue boots
  • Walking shoes
  • Hiking boots
  • Road running shoes
  • Trail running shoes
  • DIY / gardening shoes
  • Greggs' sliders
  • Greggs Crocs
  • Wellies

Wellies and outdoor/MTB shoes live in the garage (apart from the commuting riding shoes).

All the smart ones are under the bed and rarely get used these days, but have kept them from before WFH when work was business dress with suits and ties.

The Greggs' crocs live by the back door.

The sliders live in the boot of the car for getting changed after wet ride.

Running shoes live in the shoe cupboard.

The everyday trainers live on the floor wherever annoys my wife the most...

So Currently I have:

Converse x3
Vans x2
Sliders x1
Faux Crocs x1
Walking/hiking shoes x1
Wellies x1
Work boots (with Toecaps) x3
Work shoes (Office) x2
Running shoes x2

Cycling:
SPD SL x2
SPD x3 (Inc winter boots)

So 20 pairs (plus some I've probably forgotten about).

Hmmm, I feel like a bit of a tart now, not sure I can Criticise my Missus really, the only real difference is my shoes are a bit more diverse in purpose and stored in a slightly more organised way (IMO).

In terms of storage, bike shoes and running race shoes live in the garage with the football boots, cricket boots and hiking shoes. Dedicated shelving keeps them neat.
All the rest live in a rack at the bottom of my wardrobe.
General rule of shoes coming off as you enter the house and into slippers. This was introduced after an incident involving chain oil and a brand new carpet (WD40 is the answer to your next question).

6, soon to be 7.

1 pair of Shimano ME7's. Could probably do with a backup pair TBH.

1 pair of cheap roadie shoes for when I go to the velodrome

1 pair of William Lennon workboots, which I wear 90% of my life

1 pair of wellies. Perished so need replacing.

1 pair of Dadidas trainers

1 pair of Loakes brogue boots which are kept only for incredibly occasional smart occasions.

2nd pair of William Lennons incoming. A brown pair this time.

One pair of trainers, one pair of bothy slippers for the house, I’m not very mobile these days but even prior to the onset of spms I always owned more pairs of sidi’s than anything else, never owned a pair of shoes/boots etc apart from rigger boots for work. Think my max trainer count was 3 pairs at one point and 4 pairs of sidi’s.

This isnt a shoe fetish thing i promise.....

But between us we have about 35 pairs of shoes. These live in 2 shoe racks and then strewn across the floor. The racks are fine but shes wanting to replace these 2 racks (that hold 10 pairs each) with 1 that holds 6. So where the hell do the rest go?

id love to see your shoe storage pics at this moment in time so i can find a space for them

Far far far too many, probably getting on for 25 pairs.  Most of these are boxed and not in use,  bargains bought when seen in silly sales like £300 Loake boots for £60 (4 pairs bought). Actually in use about 3 pairs regularly and then another pair or three used occasionally over the year.  If I can begin to resist the urge to buy further bargains I don't need shoes for a decade. That's hard though!

Loads.

You can never have too many pairs of trainers

+1

Before I consider trainers…

- 4 pairs of cycling 5.10’s.

- 1 pair of 5.10 Guide Tennies.  Had to dispose of 2 pairs recently…  🙁

- 1 pair of Gore-Tex lined Karrimor 3 season walking boots 1 - at least 22 years old.

2 pairs brown suede desert boots.

1 pair of brown leather chukka boots.

4 pairs of black lace up formal business shoes.

2 pairs of Nike cross-training shoes, that I use for the gym.

I will have to do an inventory of my trainers*.

*Mrs JAMJ1974 - says too many…

With all the woodburning stove chat, nobody has listed Chainsaw boots? Just me then?!

Thanks to the PSAs I have three pairs of 5.10s from Frasers!  Not helped that I decided to give flats ago.

@ joshvegas

Do you not get a pair of safety thigh waders aswell?

I don't actually go into the water so haven't got any. I just watch from the side.
