Someone drove into me nearly 2 months a go now, informed my insurance the same day and am still waiting for the claim to be settled, it seems that my insurance company farms out all of the leg work to third party companies which i'm sure doesn't speed things up, but i'm just wondering how long on average it takes these days to get a claim settled, anyone been through the process recently, or in the insurance business?
Same scenario as you. Happened in January and still no update?
I was driving Mrs Ds car when someone went into the back of me. Car in front stopped, I stopped, van smashed into me.
My van insurance went up by £200 and if I sort my claim out within a year, I get this back.
Mrs D insurance quote has just come through and it's £400 more as we have an outstanding claim.
Lost £££ on the payout on my car that was written off and buying a similar car.
I got so fed up with esure that I've just phoned the company who hit me to ask why they haven't instructed their insurance company yet. They know nothing about it. Member of staff never told them and their insurance company hasn't been in touch with them. No idea if they are genuine or taking the P.
Its just hassle and stress.
Had a no fault claim settled in 3 weeks, happened in March. Took a week for the assessor to write the vehicle off - 3rd party handler with a hire car so other party's insurer wanted to sort quickly to get that finished with asap.
About 2 years. Fairly low cost but the lying little shit of a lorry driver apparently came up with some account that made his firm's insurers think it was worth contesting. Eventually it turned out there was CCTV of the incident - where that had been to survive so long is anyone's guess.
I'm pretty sure this has come up fairly recently, I remember moaning about it then. The short answer is "it varies", smokey_joe being at the good end of the variation.

I had that back in 2002 with Churchill. We sent a letter of notice before action outlining that they had failed to do as they said they would in the policy agreement and what we had paid for. Our action as small claims and would sue for 1) full policy costs 2) excess 3) increased premium the next x years and a significant amount for the time we had put in. I sent a copy to the ombudsman.
We had a reply within a week from their solicitors asking us not to sue them, showing that week they had contacted the other company, and refunding all our costs including half our premium and a £50 M&S voucher...
I had both passenger side doors stoved in by a farm vehicle pulling out last Thursday morning. Their insurer (NFU) was on the phone within a couple of hours accepting liability, not that there was any possible doubt. Damage assessment all done via photos & email resulting in it being written off (again no surprise).
Settlement arrived in my bank account from them today. Of course I've still now got to go and find another car (sigh...) but it tallies with previous experience of repairable damage that letting the other party's insurance deal with it is a good move if it's clearly their fault.
(Assuming someone actually tells them, off course!)
I had a non fault claim where the other party admitted liability straight away.
But because my claim was being (mis)handled by the amazingly terrible Winn Solicitors it took 13 months to sort out!
In the past I’ve have claims settled within a few weeks.
I made the mistake of accepting the offer of what I paid for the car as a settlement. Used prices seem to be 25% higher than 3-5 years ago yet wbac and trade ins are really low, used car dealers are really milking the lack of availability right now
Took 18 months to get a settlement when a foreign lorry ran into my wife’s car.
