Just racked up 26 years service 😯
Granted I've been able to move round a bit, but still a bloody long time
Who's going to make me feel like the new boy and out do me by a decade or more?
26 years
😯
I think longest Ive put up with the same people is about 4yrs at a time 🙂
However, Ive been self employed/freelance for the last 8yrs so I may finally have found someone Im happy working with...
To bloody long. 11 years.
I regret leaving my 1st job, I would've had 43 years in on the council! Should never have left.
Not me, (7 years here) but my dad retired in April just gone, at 63, having got the job when he was 18.
5 months at this one but 8 years before that doing the same thing at a different company.
May be having reservations about this decision. Possible "what should I do with my life" thread to follow.
Edit: just wondering, what is the worst long service gift anyone has been given. I know someone who has just done 15yr at a multinational company in a pretty respectable position and he got given a photo frame that would have cost about £2 from a market stall.
14 years in 2 stints, I had a 6 month break for a disastrous career change about 6 years ago.
I was just thinking '12', then I realised another year has passed - where the flip did that year go?
A little over 25 years.
15 years, though to be fair, I'm in the telecoms industry, so my colleagues have all changed....several times
Not been in i by myself but there doesn't seem to be a month go by where someone isn't getting a 40 year service award.
Coming up for 11 years, but in two stints - first one being 9. After almost 2 years, still not sure if I should have come back
6 months in the current one, 21 years in the previous one
12 Years. But one of my colleagues is retiring after 36 years; and has worked in the same building for the entire time - 😯
Around 13 years. My boss is an arsehole. I have no idea how I've put up with him for this long.
9 months (3 of that we are actually closed).
I had 33 years (to the day!) when I retired though.
13 months. I'd I like to stay for a bit longer but it's not a job I want for too long.
I've only had the one job, part time from 1983, full time since the day I left school in 1986 😐
3 years and need out , too far to travel for 17k a year !
31 years this year. Got an award at 25 and due another at 40 but might not be here then if I can get out early. (cnc machining) 1st year apprentice in 1984-take home pay was £46.50
15 years but pondering a change ( as always).
15 years come march. think it will see me to feet up time.
14 years this March!
4 months but 18 years with my colleagues.
Together through spin-offs, take-overs, redundancy, start-ups, administration, redundancy, and a partial take-over (hence the 4 months bit).
But today was my last day and I start a new job next month!
2 weeks for the current job, 10 years each for the 2 previous jobs.
14 yrs Started in Scarborough moved to Tamworth(6 months) Lichfield and now in Kendal hopefully will end up in Scotland 🙂
Just entered my 37th yr 😆
Like p.d.f the job has remained basically the same, fixing machines, but with down sizing/reorganisation etc there has always been change. Last year was the beginning of a new chapter with an in at the deep end, steep learning curve change again.
Pay day this weekend, 19(monthly)left to go 😆 😆
38 years 113 days 😉 you've just started come back when you've put some time in 😀
8 and a bit years. Still enjoying it most of the time.
9 years at my last job, about 4 years too long but glad I didn't make it double figures.
I worked with someone who had had over 30 jobs since leaving school and he was only in his 30s!
been with them 23 years, 11 months, 16 days only 5 years, 1 month, 15 days to go
2 years in current job, 16 years in previous job.
been with them 23 years, 11 months, 16 days only 5 years, 1 month, 15 days to go
Lucky you. 25 years, 11 months, 15 days to go for me.
4 days today. Hope to stay the rest of my working life, I'm 42ish.
I've worked for me for just over three years.
I'm the best employer I've ever had as I just let myself get on with it. Down side is I make myself work very hard indeed.
11 years, longest job I've had but starting to get itchy feet
3 weeks
13.5 years
4 years and 3 months.
There are four people in our office who have worked for the company for between 25 and 30 years. One of which her dad as been working for the company for 52 years!
3 months and not for much longer........
27 years.
36 years this year.
[ One of which her dad as been working for the company for 52 years!]
That will be Drac then 🙂
That will be Drac then
😆
24 years and 1 month. Pretty much since school. I retire in the next 3-4 weeks.
I went from 5 weeks (hi donald!), to about 13 months, to 19 years (hi donald again) (before being redundant). Now self-employed but also 'with current employer' for 8 years..
Coming up for 8 years here and I was worried that made me very long in the tooth. Genuinely surprised how long some of you have done - I thought that was impossible in this day and age.
15 years zero hour contract. 😯
I got suck in ... the fool!
12 years, but 4 different roles - now part time to pursue own business interests with the security of a baseline salary 🙂
8 years here, still mostly enjoy it, just the stupid office politics bit that lets it down
About 18 months, i usually don't get past 3 or so years for some reason, but i want this one to be longer.
Just clicked over to 16 years,I employ 2 of my best mates so its not too bad as work goes, still worry about becoming institutionalised though.
10 months of my current job in LBS. Never stuck with anything else more than a few years hopefully this will be different.
23 years at the previous, 5 years for myself
18 years 10 months and 1 week.
13 years, but in the police where I change role every 2 years or so.
18 years for me. All of them shift work. Finding it harder and harder though. When on nights (10pm-6am or 6pm-6am) if I get 4-5 hrs sleep during the day I've done well 🙁
26 years. Don't think I'll ever change TBH; I would never find another job as good with as much freedom.
I started work on the 3rd September 1973 (42 years this September) and I've still got a few more years before I can retire. 🙁
23 years.
Blimey there are some long serving individuals in here. I can't imagine 10+ years at one place never mind 30+. That's commitment! Never managed more than 5 years before getting really bored, or the firm probably feeling glad I was going somewhere else 😉 Had three goes at my own company (or 2nd/3rd guy in), before deciding - like Stoner - the only viable approach was to just go freelance/mercenary and never hire anyone again.
9months in current, 8yrs in previous, about 4yrs too long.
6 months so far. Won't be around much longer than 2 years.
10 years in current role/employer on Feb 14th. Used to be a fantastic job, with brilliant work life balance when kids were young. Legislation changes and managerial ass covering have removed much of the job satisfaction, and now the kids are older the lack of prospects is suffocating.
At least I have a job to moan about!
13 years, stuck in a rut and not much chance of changing employer in current industry
Would need to start from scratch again if I moved industry.
😯
3.5 years. Most I have ever done is 4 years at one place. Can't really see myself getting passed 4.5 years (contract ends then) with current employer due to lack of job satisfaction and prospects.
5 years is the very longest I've stayed with one employer. Career progression would be impossible otherwise.
Just coming up to two years. Been a fab journey but the boss is a right cowbag and only pays me minimum wage!!
(okay, so it's my own company...)
Rachel
stuck in a rut and not much chance of changing employer in current industry

7 years for me but as above
25 and a bit gone, 4 and a bit to go.... Can't wait to retire while still young enough (52) to enjoy it.
About ten years too long as its been downhill since then and with an extra eight years more than planned to do thanks to the govt 🙁
17.5 years here.
Now slightly stuck as I negotiated a package to move to the opposite end of the country and work from home 3 days a week, which has it's moments of pure brilliance, but also some truly tedious times. To get a job locally would involve pretty much starting from scratch along with a 30%-50% paycut, so I guess I'm staying where I am!
8 years this month just popped up on LinkedIn.
Although as a I'm consultant I've spent less than a month in the actual office in all that time.
15 years. I've moved office and project many times, and switched from aerospace to uav to shipbuilding and back
for my 10 year service award i picked from the catalogue a hoover! an alessi bottle opener and a vango bladder rucksack.
10 years
I could've murdered my boss on my 1st day and probably been out by now.
Feeling old having recently passed the 30 year mark.
Public/civil service so no gifts to mark any milestone as it's public money!
Two years, and love it.
But someone just emailed me another, even better and better paid, temporary job....
10 years earlier this week. Company has changed beyond belief though, from 4 people, £1m turnover when I joined to 32 people, £28m turnover now.
I'm "the new guy", I've only been here 14 years 😯
20 years. I've changed jobs three times so far (within a big multi-national). Made Director 5 yrs ago, which is nice but the feet are itching again. Time for a change.
Nearly 2 years, and getting itchy feet again.
My longest has been 3.5 years.
8 years, 2 months..
Still quite enjoy it, and not looking for anything else at the moment.
A mate of mine (who works in manufacturing) just had a guy retire on the 50th anniversary of him starting at the company as a 15-year old school leaver.
He worked in the same couple of buildings, on the same site his whole working life.
